“If you look at all the killings done everyday, all are done with weapons with ammunition bought here in the United States.”

You Lie!

Nah, its the racism of white mexicans such as yourself thats to blame. The poor indigenous mexicans have no other means of supporting their families but to turn to crime.

See? This blame game sure is fun.

I’m sure the culture of corruption and collectivism in Mexico has nothing whatsoever to do with it.

Deeply ingrained Mexican corruption, including politicians like Fox who behave like kings lording over a land of serfs, has much more to do with the overall disaster that is Mexico.

The condescending patrician class in Mexico benefits enormously from having a safety valve against outright revolution, via illegal migration to the US.

“What President Calderon is trying to do is refrain the drugs to this market.”

Refrain?! Perhaps he means "restrict" or "restrain."

But in my opinion, the harm is due not to America's addiction to drugs - after all, Americans are also addicted to a lot of other things - soap operas, reality shows, sugar, football, online porn, etc. - which don't result in gang wars, the assassination of law enforcement personnel, etc.

(America's addiction to foreign oil IS a problem, I'll grant you that, but there are solutions at hand which are being ignored for political reasons.)

In short, it's the illegality of the drugs of which Americans are so fond that is causing the trouble.

Legalize it, and then regulate it.

Regards,

His talking points are BS, but his essential premise is true. Mexico’s crime problem is fueled by the American demand for drugs. It’s the same way on our side of the border, too. Despite all we’ve spent in our “war on drugs,” we still have rampant problems with meth and crack use. And as long as there is a demand for drugs, there will be a supply.

Only when the demand is gone will the market disappear. It is a societal/cultural issue, not a legal one. We have to get away from the government-led materialistic society and start putting more emphasis on character and family values.

Half of the responsibility does belong to the user. I know that is hard for some of you guys to take. It is true.

He does have a point.

If there were no market business would dry up.

No one wants to seriously address what makes so many Americans feel the need to medicate themselves regularly.

This guy just doesn’t know how to connect the dots. Drugs are a commodity on the black market and they are shipped to all corners of civilization albeit the US is a central warehouse the drugs go everywhere. So to claim it is just the addictions of US drug users are the cause of Mexico’s drug problems is inaccurate. As for the sale and trade of these controlled substances all nations have the same problems.

“The truth is and everybody that is listening knows this nation has the largest consumer market of drugs in the world.”

I may not like the messenger but the message has truth to it whether we like it or not. I believe the US drug use is a strong percentage of why our kids are coming out of public schools so STUPID, including college. Everyone who keeps beating the drum about how pot is not harmful should just look at the stats of school grades vs pot users, not to mention other drugs.

Of course this is compounded with no discipline at home or in school and a poor education system to begin with but the end result is staggering. We have dumbed down our kids to alarming levels.

Keep your people home, Mr. Fox, and our guns will stay here!

Mexico is the enemy. Mexico and their beloved illegal aliens cause more crime and death in one year than any group of muslims ever did, even counting war deaths in Iraq!

Keep your cartels out of our country, and our drug use will drop!

Some of his talking points may be bravo sierra, but there is more than a kernel of truth here.

We have been fighting the war on drugs for decades are have never made much progress at suppressing demand in the US, the biggest market. Demand is as strong or stronger than ever.

We have succeeded, however in destabilizing allies in Latin America. I wonder if Bolivia would have gone to Chavez had that government not been so cooperative. The Taliban appear to be funding their insurgency out of poppy sales.

I think we have to take a serious look at bringing some drugs out of the black market and into a legal, regulated market. Because of "medical marijuana" (what a crock), weed is as good as legalized here already.

Yeah, it can’t have anything to do with the rule of law pretty much being a dead letter south of the border.

1)Secure the border as rigorously as military application is routinely used elsewhere in counties halfway around the world. It would cost one-third of the amount spent on say Afghanistan. It is the elephant in the room that US resources are denied for securing the border with Mexico. It is the CFR. Let Mexico stew in its own juices, and maybe they'll get the message.

2)Go after illegal hard drug dealing within the US like no tomorrow. The question is of course to define what drugs are the virulent ones. Marijuana? Cocaine? Methamphetamine? Viagra? Statins? anti-inflammatories? aspirin? tobacco?

The aged in America are drug consumers little different than the urban gang crowd and that culture becomes obvious to youth as well. But once the category of virulent drugs and drug use is ideologically defined, severe enforcement goes along way toward "education."

3)Let free enterprise boom, so the pathways to self improvement are accessible. And work like the devil to insure that they are.

4)Legalization of certain drugs is not the simple answer, as the Netherlands has discovered in spades. Most addictive drugs are just cultures of irresponsibility, as even the low intensity drug, alcohol addiction, clearly demonstrates. And if the US has degenerated in any sense in the last forty years it is the irresponsibility of its citizens (nurtured by Democrats incidentally). Maybe, like alcohol, legalization can be administered by age and venue. The war on drugs, for the sake of a civilized community, the US, must continue, but with an overriding perspective. And that perspective incidentally, could be best aided by the medical and parental communities, not a bunch of leftist lawyers.

Marijuana was outlawed in the 30's to replace the void in the Federal Bureaucracy left by the repeal of alcohol prohibition. It was stupid then and it is still stupid now, but the war on drugs now employs so many cops, lawyers, judges, prison guards, and counselors that noone wants to give it up.

A generation wiser than us will eventually put an end to this insane war, and will wonder what the heck we were thinking.
