First congressman casts his lot for Hayworth in Ariz. Senate primary
The Hill ^ | 1/24/10 | Jordan Fabian

Posted on 01/24/2010 12:57:56 PM PST by mdittmar

A GOP congresman on Sunday backed former Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-Ariz.) who announced yesterday he will primary Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.)

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.) became the first lawmaker to endorse the former radio host Hayworth's upstart bid.

In a Twitter post, Rohrabacher said:

McCain's wrong on too many big issues: #Immigration, #GlobalWarming, #Bailouts. @JDHayworth is better #AZ #tcot #Hayworth

Hayworth informed the Associated Press late Friday that he was stepping down as host of an Arizona talk radio program to run for Senate against the 2008 GOP presidential nominee.

By law, Hayworth could not remain a radio host and run for Senate.

The former congressman is challenging McCain from the right. McCain is perceived by some in the Republican Party as someone who too often bucks his party, though he has recently scored points among the GOP faithful for opposing the Democrats' healthcare reform bill plan.

Hayworth was unseated in 2006 by Democrat Harry Mitchell.

She is extending a kindness to the man she calls a close friend.

I question her judgment if she does anything more than introduce McCain. She can't give a campaign speech for him with a straight face. McCain is a Warmer, a proponent of amnesty, and the author of a bill that limited free speech more than any other legislation of the past 20 years.

I realize it is her decision, but some of us that can't stand what McCain stand for in terms of the GOP and the country have every right to express our displeasure and our frustration with this decision.

It is more than likely Sarah’s endorsement will be seen by most people for what it is.

Interesting as I think the endorsement can be interperted a few different ways. My take is it was an attempt by McCain to kill the entrance by JD and Sarah wittingly or unwittingly was a party to it. She’s stepped up in Tx during a hotly contested primary making an endorsement. For her it maybe better to back off and let the state voters make their choice and then come in with support to the primary winner. What she is doing is surely going to hack off a segment of voters that she may need if she does decide to run. I also see the primary endorsements as another indication she isn’t going to run. jmo.

Sarah will be at ONE fundraiser...gratitude...Brown received start up money from McRino to kick his campaign off...without those funds we may not have Brown’s win today.

McCain will extend his hand across the isle as usual, however THIS time for some political help from his political friends.

Good for you, Rohrabacher. He knows to endorse a conservative over a CINO.

Go, J.D.!

GIDDY-YUP ! McCain didn’t have the grace to retire from the political scene after his inglorious defeat and so now we have to come to the rescue once more to insure his lame efficacy is put to bed for the final time.

I’m ready.

In other words, Palin is putting politics in front of core beliefs, and Brown, regardless of how “independent” he claims to be, is beholden to McCain.

Go J.D. Hayworth!!!

I remain uncertain as to the extent of exactly what her appearances on his behalf include. I have read here that she’s appearing at fund raisers for him, but nothing on her Facebook page gives us any hint.

I am thinking now that JD Hayworth is about to officially declare, that McCain might have to revisit his “reach across the aisle” position on immigration and that’ll put him right in line with his flip-flopper pal JFKerry...lol.

You could be right about that, deport. He sure wanted her to commit early, when the fact remains that the AZ primary isn't until late August. If the posters here are correct that she is appearing at fund raisers only, then see no problem with that. I will also add that most politician to politician endorsements are made out of friendship, but people like me often don't realize that little fact.

I listen to JD whenever I drive through the Phoenix area on KFYI and love the way he thinks. McCain is simply the wrong person for this job. We need someone who will NOT cross the aisle and do what is right for the country and her legal citizens. Bounce McCain this fall and Arizona will be a far better place.
McCain needs to retire and go with his wife and daughter to a far, far away place and shut all their mouths.

Basically, I just don’t want Palin, who I think can have a voice in making this country better, to be associated with McCain, who has had a voice in making government bigger and more intrusive. I hope she just gives him a fund-raiser and that’s it. No endorsement until after the primary; let’s have the AZ GOP voters decide which direction they want to head on their own.

Sarah has always gone against the flow...go back and check her history. This shouldn't surprise anyone...geezzz...she did run as a VP candidate with McRino....regardless if she agreed with him.

Brown will work according to what is best for Mass second for his country...again...take a look at history.

J. D. Hayworth for U.S. Senate

John McCain did not pluck Sarah out of subarctic obscurity as a favor to her or because he had any affection for her. He did it only because he thought it would benefit himself. She owes him nothing. Her rise is a result of who she is. There is nothing gracious or classy about supporting the evil that is McCain. There is nothing gracious or classy about contributing to the destruction of our republic, our future, our way of life.
Loyalty in politics should be to principles and country and not to personalities. Supporting McCain is supporting amnesty and all the rest of what he is. Going rogue, indeed. More like politics as usual.
