It’s a growing trend in a turbulent economy.

Conceal-carry gun permits are on the rise, especially among people you might not expect to be packing heat.

This disproves the oft trotted out lie that more guns equals blood in the streets. We have this huge spike in gun sales and the FBI reports violent crime rates in the toilet.

It’s not the economy. It’s the uncertainty about your and your family’s safety when you go into public anymore. Whether it’s the mall, work, or school, it seems like more and more crazies are killing random people.

I refuse to be an unprepared victim to gangs or wackos.

And this guy does not even consider that most of the guns were bought because of a radical president.

Rising gun/ammo sales and increasing numbers of Americans obtaining CC licenses have FAR more to do with Obama and his ilk than with the economy.

Dear White House,

If you are going to take OUR rights, you’re going to have to fight for them, because WE sure as hell will.

I just took the class and did my range qualification here in Virginia - turned all my paperwork in on Tuesday. If anyone in the Fairfax County/Loudoun County, VA area would like a recommendation on a Firearms Instructor - mine was excellent.

Mr. Ditter and I went to the gun show in Houston yesterday. WOW! It was almost standing room only! Lotsa folks buying guns and ammo. I was reminded of the time a few years ago we took our liberal Dutch (from Holland) friend with us. He was totally shocked at the numbers of people and guns right here in Houston. It made us laugh.

I think it would be a fine idea for individual States to issue DVDs with every CC permit, with a wealth of information on them for CC holders.

The idea is that, while gun ownership is good, and sensible gun ownership is better, educated gun ownership is the best. Such a DVD could include, but is not limited to:

Proper gun short term and long term storage, including during transport in a vehicle. Secure storage when the permit holder is not around. Proper gun maintenance. Legal limits on being armed, such as federal buildings and airports. State, County and city ordinances to include unsafe discharge, liabilities, how to report a missing or stolen gun, and how to identify and act around law enforcement officers (a two-way street).

Gun etiquette, and the difference between holstered, brandishing and menacing. Gun use on your property and in public, a section on deputization, the location of gun ranges.

Even things like “selecting the right gun for you”, in-State gun and ammunition ownership outside of federal (ATF) authority. Legal rights and responsibilities of gun sales and transfers.

These things are just off the top of my head, and I’m sure I missed a bunch, and added some of little consequence. But the overall principle, of a free, “DVD education” to those who purchase CC permits, would likely make a good thing better.

I wouldn’t trust information on YouTube farther than I could throw it.

Under the auspices of the State, it would reflect current State law, and just as important, would circulate around the various police offices and agencies in the State, so they would be on the same sheet of music as the CC permit holders.

It is a major pain in ass when the police don’t know the law, which happens far too frequently.

Having a free, State issued DVD serves another purpose as well. As an introduction to gun culture to those who are unfamiliar with gun culture in their family, which is quite common.

I mention this because I knew of a judge who was sick to death of the same abused women appearing before him time and again, and put an end to it by issuing them bench orders that they *had* to be armed when in public. He was a neat guy, and even purchased a gun and ammo for women who couldn’t afford it.

The number of women appearing before him twice dropped to zero. However, far fewer women are comfortable with open carry than with CC. And it would be better overall if they had gun information provided to them, especially if they had never fired a gun.

Just remember when you get your concealed carry gun permit, you are, in effect, registering your gun with the government.
