Democrats, Get Down to Business (Harold Ford Jr.)
New York Times ^ | January 24, 2010 | Harold Ford Jr.

Posted on 01/25/2010 6:59:39 AM PST by reaganaut1

SCOTT BROWN’S victory last week in the Massachusetts Senate race, following the Republican gubernatorial triumphs in New Jersey and Virginia, marked the third time in three months that the Democratic Party has lost the support and trust of independent voters.

The message these voters sent was clear. With one out of five Americans unemployed or underemployed, President Obama and the Democratic Party need to shift attention away from health care and toward a bold effort to create jobs, improve the economy and rein in the size of government.

Here are four simple steps we must take immediately to put us, and the nation, on a better course:

First, cut taxes for businesses — big and small — and find innovative ways to get Americans back to work. We can start by giving any companies that are less than five years old an exemption from payroll taxes for six months; extending the current capital gains and dividend tax rates through 2012; giving permanent tax credits for businesses that invest in research and development; and reducing the top corporate tax rate to 25 percent from 35 percent.

America’s primary job-creating machine — the private sector — needs to be rejuvenated. Democrats must lead now on job creation or risk forfeiting Congressional majorities in November.

Second, we should pass a more focused health reform bill that restructures current health care costs before spending more, prohibits insurance companies from denying coverage for pre-existing conditions, enacts responsible reform on malpractice suits and extends health coverage to all children. And we must allow states to have input into the expansion of health coverage, as they will have to pay for much of the reform themselves.

This program isn’t all that Democrats wanted from health care reform right now, but it’s what the country wants.

First, cut taxes for businesses

HUH? he’s just another obama empty suit, who doesn’t happen to need a teleprompter to give a speech. He was still voting in Memphis recently, while claiming to be an NY resident for 3 years....his address in Memphis is the family funeral home.

Put a photo of 0 next to JR and what do you get? Same empty suit, only one doesn't need a teleprompter to talk to 6 year olds.

JR speaks out of both sides of his mouth, and votes just like pelosi. TN Eagle Forum tracks their votes, we know him for the LIBERAL he is. Never met a tax hike he didn't like, never met a pro 2nd Amendment bill he approved of, is PRO ABORTION...need I say more?

What the Demwits need to do in order to help this country is swallow their bottles of prescription meds, washing them down with booze, and die. Better them than us. Thanks reaganaut1.

Harold Ford Jr is a RAT bastard demoRAT socialist no matter how populist he tries to sound. When he was in the House of Representatives, I recall an incident where some Republican congresswoman made some slam or cutting remark about a demoRAT (in fact I think it was about Robert Byrd and his former KKK ties & associations) and I recall the article stating how Harold Ford Jr “leaped over some chairs and had to be physically restrained” from going after the congresswoman. Typical spoiled brat bully, loves to dish out all sorts of insults and can’t take anything in return. What was Ford Jr going to do? Hit the woman? What a pompous demoRAT jerk he is. I hope even the NY liberals clean his clock!!!

“That way I could have voted for the first black president AND the more conservative candidate.”

He’s another phony, like Gillibrand, and will tell you what he thinks you want to hear.

“He needs to leave the RAT party.”

As a proabort, he will be much more comfortable sticking with the Party of Death.

Gillibrand is a bee-itch, of the first order, and I really, really, really wish someone from the GOP (or the conservative party in NY) would grow the cojones to go up against her - it's gonna be pretty pathetic if I have to step up to the plate myself and at least make the gesture.

Ever since she voted against defunding ACORN, knowing that they were using some of their federal funding to counsel people on how to set up child prostitution rings, just the mere mention of her name has been enough to make me sick to my stomache - would that she suffers all of the pains and agonies of each and every little girl (and boy, too) who gets forced into child prostitution because of her reckless, feckless vote to continue funding ACORN:

The pickings are slim in NY, and the voters are pathetic, but look what happened in MA, so you never know.

I hope you DO step up to the plate.

Thanks for the vote of confidence; however, I won't fool myself, or anyone else, into thinking that I'm a Buckley, Jr. type who could actually pull that off, pull it off well, and strike a strategic rhetorical blow, more's the pity. Still, at least the travel stickers on my carpet-bag aren't still brand-new, unlike, say, ex.-Sen. Clinton.

Maybe John Faso will run. He’s a good guy, and has a decent chance when the mood of the country is more antiliberal.

I hope someone who isn't a complete joke (like me, for instance) runs, even if they know going into it that they're likely to lose - right now, with the panic the Democrats have gotten into over losing the seat in which Killer Kennedy overstayed his welcome, they're going to be throwing wads and wads of cash at anything that moves and looks like it might run against their minions, no matter how "safe" the incumbent might seem - divide and conquer is a strategy with a long history of successful application, and it seems to me that at this point, hitting every seat possible helps us (by dividing the Democrats) more than it hurts us (by spreading our resources thin).

Let’s not forget, even blue, blue NJ has a Republican gov. elect, as well as the MA Senate win, and purple VA also has a Republican gov..

The time for Republicans - hopefully PROLIFE, CONSERVATIVE Republicans - is NOW!
