What I have seen demonstrated on this thread is a serious attempt to analyze a very sad/bad situation and put it into, what looks like, a more correct perspective. I think so. If the mere act of reading the Koran and/or converting to Islam caused a person to murder 5 family members. ...well...we wouldn't be fighting a war against Islamic terrorism would we? There wouldn't be many Muslims around.

The conversion itself was probably a sign the guy was off.
********
Yes, especially if his conversion occurred while he was doing time for another crime.

But the creed of Islam and its “kill or subjugate the infidel” core belief may have given him all he need for an A-OK to proceed.
It couldn’t have helped.

Funny how few mentally ill people step in front of buses, get in fights in serious biker/off duty LEO bars. Its almost as if they rationally pick and choose."Suicide by cop" has become a well known phrase not only on FR but in general usage. And google "caltrain suicide" for a nearly-monthly summary on teenagers calling it quits here in Silicon Valley.

Well a man come on the 6 o’clock news
Said somebody’s been shot, somebody’s been abused
Somebody blew up a building
Somebody stole a car
Somebody got away
Somebody didn’t get too far yeah
They didn’t get too far
Grandpappy told my pappy, back in my day, son
A man had to answer for the wicked that he done
Take all the rope in Texas
Find a tall oak tree, round up all of them bad boys
Hang them high in the street for all the people to see that

This I dont pin on Islam. He could have converted to any faith. Being a mental case came first.
Tell that to his sister. She confirmed he was not mentally ill.
Thomas sister, KaTara Price, 24, of Houston, said she believes anger and Thomas conversion to the Muslim religion influenced his actions. She said she is not aware of him suffering from any mental illness.

So many people who are raised in the environment of a Judeo-Christian culture who have benefitted from national blessings, but have yet to come to faith in God and what He provided in Christ, confuse religion with simply a philosophy with psychological certainty.
Christianity is a spiritual way of life, but counterfeit religions open up an access to counterfeit spirituality, which involves very real persons in the spiritual domain.
Becoming Muslim isn’t just another philosophical consideration or lifestyle perspective. It invites a very demonic spiritual domain into one’s life which is well documented with evil consequence.
Demon possession might very well cause someone to run amok, however the person might also still be held accountable for their criminality.

Agreed. Seems his conversion wasn’t complete as he allowed himself to be captured in fear of his own death at the hands of the neighbor whom held him with a life threatening weapon for Law Enforcement’s arrival.
It seems to me it wasn’t a religion based assault upon the family, but more a spontaneous action of someone quite disturbed.
The act of decapitation of the 2 year old Niece was similar to Islamic acts of violence, but then we read often anymore of that in actions by non-Muslim Mexican druggies.
My bet is the guy was/is nuts.

Islam is not a peaceful religion. It is a violent political ideology with it’s own set of laws and court system. Religion is only one component and is used to impose islam on non muslim societies.

I don’t know why you are defending Islam, but the sister of the accused attributed the crime in part to Islam. Considering her family was murdered, it doesn’t appear she would have any incentive to keep him from receiving the death penalty.
