Ellie Light speaks
Politico ^ | January 26, 2010 | Ben Smith

EXCERPT

Well, the mystery may be over. A woman who said her name was, in fact, Ellie Light called this morning into the radio show of Michael Smerconish, a national talker based in Philadelphia who has been friendly to Obama, to clear things up.

"I'm only me," she said, identifying herself as a traveling nurse who works for 13-week stretches at hospitals around the country, and whose primary residence is in Southern California.

"I need to own up – I did misrepresent my home town in some places," Light told Smerconish. Her logic in faking the addresses is one familiar to advocacy groups: "If I thought it was written by a neighbor of mine, I would give it more credence."

Light mused on why the letter was so widely circulated: "My letter was pretty darn good. It took a long time to write. I took more interest in honing it than most people take today."

"I don't know why others are not making the observation that, Why are we all abandoning the president we so adored so quickly?" she said.

MY VIEW: WEAR THEIR SHOES, IF YOU DARE
Santa Fe New Mexican, The (NM) - Sunday, April 2, 2006
Author: WINSTON STEWARD
Reading about the bloody rivalry between Sunnis and Shiites in Iraq, I struggle for a common point of reference. Watching friends and relatives dragged dead through the streets, dozens assassinated point-blank at impromptu checkpoints, holy shrines bombed. Not a common American experience.

But imagine being Afghan or Iraqi; imagine all of that right here at home. America as a poorer, smaller nation, with powerful neighbors. We’d possess one or two exportable natural resources and be quite dependent on international commerce. Imagine our own rivalry between North and South, exaggerated by the presence of lots of guns, which always seems to be the case when a country is poor. Imagine the Pat Robertsons and Focus-on-the-Family types, the Jon Stewarts and Ted Kennedys, all armed to the teeth and really, really mean.

Now, as happens with unstable, smaller nations, a superpower will step in and “help” this America, arm both sides, watch the bloodshed with a tsk-tsk and siphon off natural resources at less-than-fair prices. Then other superpowers would take interest, alliances would form, perhaps the Brits would place their bets on the Ted Kennedys and the French would support the religious conservatives.

During such times, all moderate voices in our nation would be silenced, anyone not advocating violence would succumb to two generations of “I-killa-you-family” and the reasonable among us would be either dead or abroad. No one would be left except the abortion-clinic bombers and the crazy-left Weather Underground. What happens next?

Enter another superpower that subjugates all of America under a brutal dictatorship, and the rest of the world sees its chance. They arm a scrappy band of hard-bitten, homegrown warriors, deeply religious, patriotic, hard fighters, and with enough foreign support, America’s patriots prevail against the unwanted superpower and the world rejoices.

The new government signs contracts with supporting nations, in exchange for arms to protect itself against its own citizens, and tribute flows to the mother ship. No one outside our borders asks why. Oh, and of course, Americans are still busy killing one another, settling old scores, while the Ann Coulters of the world editorialize: “Those Americans have a seeerious anger-management problem.”

What’s it like to be Afghan or Iraqi? Now you’ve just about got it.

So when I read the account of Iraqi citizens questioning why America suddenly sat on its hands while the Sunni and Shiite militants went at it, I recalled Bill Clinton hamstrung by allegations of oral sex while Bosnians and Rwandans were butchered by the thousands, and I thought of Nick Nolte, playing the drunken United Nations Col. Oliver in the movie Hotel Rwanda, burdened with the knowledge that the West planned to walk away and let the blood flow. All he could say to Paul Rusesabagina was, “You should spit in my face.”

Winston Steward is a concerned Santa Fe citizen, registered nurse, health-care advocate and author of the novel Eggshell Boy.

Data on Dirty-fingered, Revolving-door Bushies?
by Winston Steward
Tue Feb 03, 2009 at 11:09:07 AM PST

As President Obama is taking a beating over the withdrawal of two nominees over tax issues, I’m trying to find references to the the practices of the Bush-era kleptocrats who I’m sure are laughing themselves silly over Obama’s “clean hands” approach. Are there sources for Bush administration officials tied to the industries they supposedly oversaw, and financial relationships with industries they supposedly regulated?

I blame the lazy editors. Especially the night editors. They clown around on the internet all night, drinking coffee, smoking cigarttes, and eating hero sandwiches instead of doing their job, which is EDITING!

What an amazing coincidence.

Exactly. No one can practice nursing in my state of Pennsylvania without a license issued in the Commonwealth, and only after rigorous testing.

I hope the FR nurses, whom we have in every state, will chime in on this.

Or... She could be a nobody wanting to be a somebody.

Even the local community paper has called me to verify that I wrote the note e-mailed to them, EVERY TIME.

I checked the local papers here and they require your phone and mailing address and they will call you to verify before they print any letters.

Something stinks about this.

Someone on Facebook named Barbara Brooks (a pediatric nurse) claims that Ellie Light is . . . her husband. She writes on her Wall:

Don’t think you can make a difference? Well, my husband wrote letters to newspapers under a pen name “Ellie Light” and over 42 newspapers published the letters and now Ellie Light is the most searched name on google. I don’t agree with using phony names, though. But then he isn’t a Mennonite . .

Looks like this pair has been at the letter writing, (and phony address game) for some time.

Mr. Cheney was on the defensive
York Daily Record (PA) - Thursday, October 14, 2004
Author: WINSTON STEWARD LOGANVILLE
Mr. Edwards is the clear winner of this debate. Cheney is an intelligent man, provided thoughtful answers, and didn’t fall into repeating himself like his boss did a few nights ago. Still, it was clear Cheney was on the defensive, while Edwards provided all the best and strongest ideas.

Doesn’t grasp it

I didn’t know much about John Kerry before the debate, but I always thought President Bush sounded OK in his press conferences. But when you put them side by side, it’s clear Kerry knows more and would probably be a better leader. It surprises me that after four years on the job the president still doesn’t seem to have much of a grasp on things.

***Do nurses have to be licensed in each state where they work?***

There are a few states that will recognize the license from another state. Not all states do....YOu need to take boards in those states to practice.

Years back when I was nursing I know New York and Calif. were 2 of the states that would not accept licenses from any other state..

Never heard of a nurse that traveled from state to state unless she wasn't too good at her job and was released from employment. (nice way to say fired). But nurses do move around alot, usually within their state and area of residence. Some hospitals are better to work in than others..

Friend: Barbara Brooks

The cat is out of the bag. Winston Steward is “Ellie Light” who had letters published in 60 newspapers. I don’t agree with using phony names and addresses, but I encouraged him to write letters under his own name. They are excellent letters that need to be heard, but not under false pretenses!!!21 minutes ago

And now the Plain Dealer has updated, reporting that Barbara Brooks has contacted them and she’s not Ellie Light...that it’s her husband pretending to be her, who’s pretending to be Ellie Light.

By the time this is over, there are going to be a lot of lawsuits filed by innocent private citizens who had the misfortune to share a name with an astroturfing fraud.
