UPDATE: It appears that Occupy Austin has removed all of its original “Occupy the Hood” Facebook postings and comments. We have been unable to find the posts in several searches of their Facebook page. According to Austin’s YNN, very few Occupy Austin protesters attended the event in East Austin. YNN reported that approximately 40 people attended the event. Curiously, YNN left the phrase “Occupy the Hood” out of all of their reporting. AUSTIN, TEXAS – Occupy Austin announced on their Facebook page an event tomorrow that they have dubbed “Occupy the Hood”. Similar “Occupy the Hood” events will take place...

According to The Learning Channel, "All-American Muslim" program is a "powerful series" taking viewers "inside the rarely seen world of American Muslims." And it uncovers a "unique community struggling to balance faith and nationality." Critics, however, say it is nothing more or less than a video version of jihad. Islam analyst Pamela Geller says that perspective on the show is also its danger. "Clearly this program is designed to counter the fictional threat of 'Islamophobia' by showing Muslims who aren't terrorist monsters, but ordinary people living ordinary lives, balancing tradition and modern life, dealing with their families, their jobs, and...

Yeah, Herman Cain won the Florida straw poll, crushing Mitt Romney and Rick Perry. And OK, a CBS poll recently found him tied with Romney among likely Republican primary voters. Sure, he also scored a resounding victory in another straw poll this weekend. And Rasmussen just today released the finding that 56% of GOP voters like Cain's 9-9-9 plan. So is that enough to make the Associated Press consider Cain a first-tier candidate? Nah. On MSNBC's "Daily Rundown" this morning, AP's political editor, Liz Sidoti, sniffed "we still consider him a second-tier candidate." View the video here.

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain and MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell had quite a heated battle on Thursday's "The Last Word." During one segment, after O'Donnell besmirched his guest for not enlisting for military service during the Vietnam War despite having worked for the Department of Navy as a ballistics analyst, Cain marvelously asked, "Do you stay up night to come up with the wording in these questions or do you have someone writing them for you?"

Howe to win the 2012 election?Latino voteA. One of the most crucial votes is the Latino. They are divided into three main camps, 1. Mexicans [the largest block] and, 2. Cubans [most successful], Puerto-Ricans [are actually American citizens, yet, still have a certain pride, Obama knew what he was doing when he visited that island] 4. other Latinos. One of the deepest [inner Latino-Americano] friction is the Cuban-Mexican. Mexicans are usually allied with other central-Americans (despite their intra-hatred back home). Cubans and the 'Cuban issue' is still playing towards pro-Republicans, whereas "mainstream" Latino -unfortunately- sees the right as an "enemy"....

Law enforcement officers arrested the owner of BoCoMo Bay yesterday after firearms and a large amount of synthetic marijuana were found at his south Columbia home, they said. Approximately 100 firearms along with a large amount of substances believed to be synthetic marijuana were discovered at the home of Kevin E. Bay, 47, at 400 E. Old Plank Road, according to a Boone County Sheriff’s Department news release. Bay operates BoCoMo Bay at 1122 Wilkes Blvd. ***** Bay was arrested on the outstanding warrant from Stoddard County that charges him with six counts of delivery or imitation of a synthetic...

Cheers. For some reason the libs weren’t so outraged when Obaama served $399 bottles of wine at his taxpayer-funded state dinner … … but Libs today were “stunned” and “outraged” that popular conservative Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) ordered a $350 bottle of wine for dinner in New York. TPM reported, via Ann Althouse: When [Professor Feinberg] saw the label on the bottle of Jayer-Gilles 2004 Echezeaux Grand Cru Ryan’s table had ordered, she quickly looked it up on the wine list and saw that it sold for an eye-popping $350, the most expensive wine in the house along with one...

RUSH: Bob Schieffer State of the Union last night, special coverage. Katie Couric talked to him about Michele Bachmann delivering a Tea Party response. Katie Couric said, "How serious do you see this chasm developing? The GOP leadership allowing Bachmann to speak out there after Paul Ryan? What's going on, Bob? You have all the answers. What do you say about that?" SCHIEFFER: The fact that the Republican leadership is letting Michele Bachmann make a second response here just underlines that! I mean, my heavens! Can you imagine what Sam Rayburn, when he was Speaker of the House, would have...

Why does their hatred of her burn so hot? Ask them, and they'll most likely tell you: Because she's a moron. But that is obviously false. To be sure, her skills at extemporaneous speaking leave much to be desired. But that can be said of a good many politicians on both sides of the aisle, including George W. Bush, John Kerry and, yes, Barack Obama. And don't get us started on the man who defeated her for the vice presidency.

Following the call of many, including some House Democrats, that other states and people in general should boycott Arizona over its new tough immigration laws, Dem Congresswoman Gabriel Giffords said the following on Fox News, June 30, 2010: “If you’re angry at the politicians, take out your anger and resentment on the politicians, not over — you know, over the hard-working people.” The interviewer, GVS, did not even blink on Gifford’s language. No, not because GVS is used to hearing it from Palin or Beck, but because this – again – is regular political talk that is used all the...

You goto love how the Leftist Dems, such as Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Senator Gillibrand who politically can’t stand Blue Dog Democrats, are now the biggest champs of their newly-found friend “Gabby” (Giffords), the Blue Dog Democrat who was one of nineteen to vote against Pelosi being Speaker. With the left so busy with their love for Gabby, I am wondering how many times – if at all – Obama campaigned personally for Gabby during her tough re-election campaign, and how much monetary support Schultz and Gillibrand gave for their Gabby during the last election cycle. I am only...

The investigation into the shooting death of Spc. Alyssa Peterson found her suicide came soon after she was reassigned for objecting to prisoner interrogation techniques but did not specifically give a reason for her action. A Flagstaff soldier who died in Iraq committed suicide after she refused to participate in interrogation techniques being practiced by her U.S. Army intelligence unit, according to a report about an Army investigation aired by a Flagstaff radio station. U.S. Army Spc. Alyssa R. Peterson, 27, died Sept. 15, 2003, in Tel Afar, an Iraqi city of about 350,000 residents in the northern part of...

Liberals lionizing gay leaker Bradley Manning into new lib hero. The liberals in the US and around the world are beginning to rally against disgraced, homosexual leaker Manning in a way that is reminiscent of supporters speaking out on behalf of a cult figure or hero. In the last few days, the liberals in the media have made quite a gigantic uproar about either the manner in which Manning is allegedly being mistreated by the US military, or whether all the evidence that may just exonerate him has actually been released. This phenomenon is explainable in the following way. In...

Ruth Fremson/The New York TimesSome viewers of an interview with Steve Martin on Monday apparently thought that it dwelt too much on the art world. In the history of intellectual chatter, the events of Nov. 29, 2010, at the 92nd Street Y will be archived under disaster. Or comedy. That night, a conversation between Steve Martin, the writer and actor, and Deborah Solomon, who writes a weekly interview column for The New York Times Magazine, resulted in the Y’s sending out a next-day apology, along with a promise of a refund. Mr. Martin, in Miami for a book event,...

BERKELEY, Calif.—On the night before we are scheduled to address this conference, the Tea Party experts are treated to a meal at the Faculty Club. It sounds fancy, and it is, with the feel and décor of a Sundance ski lodge. Over craft beers, wine, and cheese, we discuss that favorite topic of liberal academics: What the hell happened to Barack Obama? Why does the right have all the energy that he and the left used to own?

I have sent an e-mail response to The Jewish Press in rebuttal to a liberal e-mailer. I have done this in the past, but my responses hardly ever get posted. This being the case I have decided to post it here to FR. Here is the original e-mail (name withheld) followed by the response I sent.

A check from Uncle Sam gets your attention, even if the money doesn't help that much with the bills. More than 750,000 Medicare recipients with high prescription costs each got a $250 government check this summer, and 3 million-plus more checks are going out to people who land in the program's anxiety-inducing coverage gap. Democrats, running scared in an election year, are trying to overcome older people's mistrust of the new health care law, which expands coverage for younger generations by cutting Medicare payments to hospitals and insurers. Will the ploy work? "It's like a teaser," says Virginia Brant, 65,...

If you have been watching and listening to Glenn Beck, you know he’s been doing a bang-up job of exposing the vast left-wing crime syndicate that now runs the White House. He has give them every opportunity to correct him, and yet, they have never responded. Instead, they have tried to promote a boycott of his sponsors, which has been an abject failure. Beck’s show is still the highest rated on cable, and his radio broadcast the 3rd most listened to in the nation. In an act of desperation which likely stems from the fact that Goldline Company refuses to...

Bipartisan support for Israel has been one of the greatest casualties of US President Barack Obama's assault on the Jewish state. Today, as Republican support for Israel reaches new heights, support for Israel has become a minority position among Democrats. --SNIP-- AIPAC also has institutional reasons for papering over the erosion in Democratic support for Israel. First, most of its members are Democrats. Indeed, AIPAC's new President Lee Rosenberg was one of Obama's biggest fundraisers.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Pollen: It's on your car, in the air and especially in your sinuses. From Florida to Texas to Colorado, 2010 is shaping up to be a monster of an allergy season. The words "pollen" and "allergy" are among the top 10 trending topics on Twitter in several U.S. cities. Everywhere, it seems, is covered in a fine yellow dust that irritates our lives. Experts say it's the worst they've seen in years. "It's wicked bad this year," said Dr. Mona Mangat, an allergy specialist in St. Petersburg, Fla., who can't recall a worse year in the...

EXCERPT Well, the mystery may be over. A woman who said her name was, in fact, Ellie Light called this morning into the radio show of Michael Smerconish, a national talker based in Philadelphia who has been friendly to Obama, to clear things up. "I'm only me," she said, identifying herself as a traveling nurse who works for 13-week stretches at hospitals around the country, and whose primary residence is in Southern California. "I need to own up – I did misrepresent my home town in some places," Light told Smerconish. Her logic in faking the addresses is one familiar...

President Barack Obama is on a path to becoming the greatest con man in history. He conned the Nobel Committee into awarding him the Peace Prize, even as he continues military occupations and escalates and expands his wars. He conned many peace advocates into voting for him, but now he continues President George W. Bush's military policies. He conned many environmental activists into voting for him, but now his administration promotes nuclear power, persecutes endangered species such as wolves, and promotes an ineffectual, loophole-filled "cap and trade" carbon scheme. He conned many health reform advocates into voting for him, but...

You folks remember a year ago Thanksgiving 2008? Liberals were celebrating, conservatives were commiserating about the end of the world. Well a year later and it is not a very happy Thanksgiving for our Liberal/Progressive friends. Before I brighten your day here's a little comment I posted the day after election 2008 : "Come January Obama’s days of gaining anybody is over. The whole game changes, the demon GWB is out, Pelosi/ Obama is in. Come January their party is over as all cameras are on them. And we reunite after many years in a common cause (finally) with the...

"While it is obvious the progressive blogosphere is superior, we are being out-organized on Twitter," said Gina Cooper, a blogger who helped organize Netroots Nation, an annual gathering of online liberal activists that met last week in Pittsburgh. "There is some catching up to do on the progressive side." Tracy Viselli, who attended Netroots Nation, agreed with Cooper and admitted that liberal bloogers are ceding this valuable territory to conservatives. "Twitter is a news funnel," she said. "Conservatives are very tightly knit and getting their message out very well."

I'll give it to you in one word: Independents. If House Democrats want to avoid losing 20 seats in 2010, they know they will have to fight and hold on to as many Independents as possible, period. Lose them and they will lose the House, it's just that simple, and they know it. Thus the creation here of late in the mainstream press of the local militia and Nazi memes. It's an old political trick. Fanaticize the right with a bogus militia scare, throw in a couple of swastikas and watch the Independents stream back into the fold. So get...

CONDITION IS CRITICAL: LIBS August 18, 2009 WASHINGTON -- Liberal supporters of President Obama were up in arms yesterday over signs from the White House that it was ready to pull the plug on a key aspect of its health-reform plan -- creation of a government-run insurance program. "You really can't do health reform" without the so-called public option, said Howard Dean, former chairman of the Democratic National Committee and a medical doctor. In a statement that cited strong House support for a government-run plan, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said, "A public option is the best option to lower costs,...

Frustrated liberals have a question for President Barack Obama and Democratic lawmakers: Isn't it time the other guys gave a little ground on health care? What's the point of a bipartisan bill, they ask, if we're making all the concessions?.... ...Many liberals are fed up. "It is clear that Republicans have decided 'no health care' is a victory for them," Andy Stern, president of the Service Employees International Union, said in an interview. "There is a point at which bipartisanship reaches a limit, and I would say it's reaching that limit."

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) _ Michelle Obama took a break recently from the campaign trail to get her hands messy breading shrimp as she helped prepare a deep-fried dinner with the Food Network's first lady of Southern cooking, Paula Deen. The wife of Democrat Barack Obama got cozy with Deen in the kitchen during a recent taping of the Savannah celebrity cook's TV show "Paula's Party," scheduled to air on the cable network Sept. 20. Michelle Obama and Deen swapped stories about their families' favorite meals as they cooked fried shrimp and french fries at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va.,...

What a reversal. Freedom is breaking out across Iran. We are witnessing one of the most historical events of our lifetimes, comparable no doubt to the fall of the Berlin Wall. Yet, Libertarians, outside of this political news blog, Atlas Shrugs, the Libertarian Defense Caucus, and a few other libertarian Republicans, are for the most part silent. Virtually no reportage at Reason. In the last week, just two articles on the whole Iranian Revolution at Reason, and one was more of a criticism of how CNN was covering the event, than coverage of the event itself. Cato is similarly unengaged....

Over at Riehl World View, Dan writes of "Mourning" Joe Scarborough: Isn't it at least a little bizarre that the grand book party for said book would be held at the home of Margaret (so liberal you can't take her seriously) Carlson? And that the guest list (with video) included such notable conservatives as - Andrea Mitchell, Dana Milbank, Chris Matthews, Ana Marie Cox, Norah O'Donnell, Frank Foer, Evan (Obama is god) Thomas, Michael Isikoff and Bill Press? A bit further down, Dan Riehl continued: I'm not going to go on about him, as frankly, I'd probably go over the...

You can always tell on campus who the conservative professors are. They’re the ones not attempting to indoctrinate their students. When I had the opportunity to teach several courses at a local college a few years back, I became a conspicuous example of this phenomenon. I stuck to the facts but could not prevent students from occasionally politicizing discussions as established practices are not easily abandoned. Their interjections always unnerved me. On one occasion, a young lady replied, in response to a mundane comment from a peer, “Well, I’m not surprised. We’re all Democrats in here with the exception of...

By email, Dan alerted me to, on his Riehl World View, where Mark Levin added a second guest commentary, this time focusing on "conservative" David Frum. Here's an excerpt and the link over: My interactions with Frum have been minimal, despite his past suggestions that they were something more. As best I recall, I met him first on an Amtrak train. He was sitting near the restroom feverishly working his lap top's keyboard. We exchanged pleasantries, and that was about it. I believe the next time I met him was at the Ledeen's home. He seemed harmless enough. The next...

(CNSNews.com) - Transportation Secretary Ray Lahood told a group of reporters at the National Press Club on Thursday that he wants to “coerce people out of their cars.” In Newsweek magazine last week, nationally syndicated columnist George Will published a piece critical of Lahood, entitled, “Ray Lahood, Transformed--Secretary of Behavior Modification.” “He says he has joined a ‘transformational’ administration: ‘I think we can change people's behavior,’” Will reports that Lahood said over lunch. Lahood, a former Republican congressman from Peoria, Ill., has become a champion of using the Department of Transportation and federal transportation spending to get people to take...

Last night, Mark Levin compared the speech of President Barack Obama to remarks made by former Vice President Dick Cheney yesterday. (Full audio of Cheney speech here.): There are flaws within these passages from what President Obama said yesterday: Indeed, the legal challenges that have sparked so much debate in recent weeks in Washington would be taking place whether or not I decided to close Guantanamo. For example, the court order to release seventeen Uighur detainees took place last fall – when George Bush was President. The Supreme Court that invalidated the system of prosecution at Guantanamo in 2006 was...

Overall, "read my lips" was the first feckless President Bush's biggest mistake because of its unintended consequences on the culture, foreign policy and the national discourse. Among other things, it opened the door to the politics of personal destruction of Bill Clinton and all that entailed, which begat the Republican Revolution of 1994. The second feckless President Bush and moderate congressional Republicans ended up hijacking the revolution, and their borrow-and-spend policies breathed new life into long-ago-discredited liberalism. That led the Democrats back to the White House and gave them solid liberal majorities on Capitol Hill, including very soon a filibuster-proof...

Lieberman is no racist By Yehuda Ben-Meir Last update - 11:01 26/04/2009 I did not vote for Avigdor Lieberman and never will. I do not agree with some of his political positions and do not accept his framing of certain issues. But I am appalled by the left's delegitimizing of Lieberman and anyone connected with him. I do not believe that Israel's Arab citizens must be required to declare their loyalty to the Jewish state. What must be demanded of them and of all Israeli citizens, whether Jewish, Druze or other, is unflinching loyalty to the State of Israel and...

[Mark] Levin's target is those collectivists whom he collectively labels simply the "statists". These are the big government reformers who are incapable of resisting Story's "captivations of theory." Rather than be burdened by the thought that man's nature is imperfect, these so-called progressives swoon to the thought of the perfectibility of man's nature -- perfectible, that is, if only government is allowed to intrude ever further and impose rules drawn from increasingly abstract speculations about what the good life demands. In the end, Levin draws his reader back to an appreciation of the dangers of just how much tyranny can...

Weeks ago, I obsessed on a political point: would President Barack Obama mobilize his millions of voters to apply political pressure on Washington to pass his policy initiatives. At that time, the stimulus package was the top item on his agenda, and the White House was not doing much to activate the Obama millions to boost support for the legislation in Congress. As the stimulus fight proceeded, Organizing for America, the spin-off of the Obama presidential campaign, did zap out an email to its list of 13 million and asked those supporters to hold house parties to discuss the recovery...
