He’s from Waycross, GA.
RIP neighbor.
Another one to pancreatic cancer. It took Little Joe in 1991.
“Pa”,Michal Landon looks like a teenager in that cast shot.
We always watched Bonanza every Sunday night.
I think Pernell quit Bonanza to make movies, but anyway
hate to hear of his passing.
Tick Tock Tick Tock
What I always remember about Bonanza was that no matter how serious the episode and no matter how many baddies came to their justly fatal ends thanks to the Cartwrights, the last scene of every show was usually the Cartwrights standing together laughing at some joke. “That varmint’s head sure exploded like a melon when my bullet hit him Pa.” And then they’d all laugh hysterically. Even their horses chuckled a bit.
He was the mature, calm one of the bunch. Rest in Peace.
Jean Simmons (1/22/10).
Pernell Roberts (1/24/10).

Looks like that was Alan Sader. Spokesperson of the Christian Children Fund. I’m trying to find a video but no such luck.
In honor of Pernell Roberts, the ACTUAL lyrics to the theme of Bonanza. Sung by the Cartwright family and used on the show one time only.

Lol! How true. No wonder us FReepers who grew up in the '50s think the way we do. Loved all those old TV Westerns, especially Rawhide with Clint Eastwood.
Oh, I missed that Jean Simmons passed away!
I remember when it was a Saturday night show. One weekend we got the Saturday night show and then another when it moved to Sunday.
I'd like to see someone do a body count of the number of baddies dispatched by the good guys in all the tv westerns. Even the Cartwrights, who were basically ranchers, ended up killing what must be hundreds of bad guys in their long reign on NBC. I'll bet Marshall Dillon's dead bad guy list is close to one thousand. And remember in those days they filmed close to thirty-nine episodes per season.

Thank you Trisha - Alan Sader it is;) He certainly looks and sounds very much like Pernell Roberts.
Now, I finally know.
RIP P.Roberts.
Want to hear a good song sung so fine, you can feel it through your shoes, through your bones and up to your scalp? Here’s Pernell Roberts’ wonderful voice working “They Call the Wind Mariah.”

Thank you for that and everything, PR. Rest in peace.
>> Every episode was a morality play.
Here’s a Bonanza episode with Lee Marvin, exploring how a man can be reduced to madness and murder — and how some just have a base below which they don’t go.
