ACORN gotcha man among four arrested for attempting to bug Mary Landrieu's office
The Times-Picayune ^ | January 26, 2010 | David Hammer

The FBI, alleging a plot to wiretap Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu's office in downtown New Orleans, arrested four people Monday, including James O'Keefe, a conservative filmmaker whose undercover videos at ACORN field offices severely damaged the advocacy group's credibility.

FBI Special Agent Steven Rayes alleges that O'Keefe aided and abetted two others, Joseph Basel and Robert Flanagan, who dressed up as employees of a telephone company and attempted to interfere with the office's telephone system.

A fourth person, Stan Dai, was accused of aiding and abetting Basel and Flanagan. All four were charged with entering fedral property under false pretenses with the intent of committing a felony.

A witness from Landrieu's staff said O'Keefe was present in the office and claimed to be "waiting for someone to arrive."

All I know is, if someone like G Gordon Liddy couldn't pull it off then I would be cautious to try it myself.

I personally feel bad for Andrew Breitbart. I fear he is going to be wrongfully tarred because of this.

Looks to me like O’Keefe was setting up a new sting of some sort. The questions I have are: What was the “story” he was pursuing, who put him up to it, and was it a setup?

“First off, THANKS for your service! I figured based on your name that you were approximately 62 years old :0) ..
.
I’m was not saying that you WERE a KOS kid, I’m saying the arguments that you were making sounded like their reasoning.
.
I too believe that the enemy is amongst us and government IS the problem, but we have to use the rules that are set forth to CHANGE the government and its leadership, and not say that anarchy is ok because we dont agree with Zero. At one point in the future it may come to that, and unfortunately it seems to be getting here faster every day, but we are not at that point yet.
.
Tresspassing and Illegally taping a US Senator is illegal and will taint ANY information that is received from the wiretap. I just think we need to stand up for justice, rule of law, and honestly - and not check the R or D in front of the name of the accused.”

And thank you for chipping in to pay my pension!

If this were a normal period in our history, I’d agree with you, but I think we are in a period of civil war, and the rules have changed. As Lincoln said, “The constitution is not a suicide pact.”

The people we are dealing with are ruthless. I saw their work first hand in Vietnam in 1968 when I was part of a team that dug up something like 5,000 Vietnamese Republicans (mostly teachers, doctors, lawyers and soldiers) murdered by the North Vietnamese Communists when they briefly occupied Hue. Some were thrown into the grave still alive. I’ll never forget the smell and the cries of shock and horror from the surviving relations of these people...

Yesterday Vietnam..Tomorrow America? Like I said we are dealing in a situation tantamount to war with ruthless people. At the present time they control our government. In order to survive we must stop being conservatives and become Radical Republicans, or we will at the end of day end up dead and cold in a mass grave.

since when does it take 4 guys to wiretap a phone?

Back in 1980, it only took 3 guys to deliver a half-ton IBM copier to Harveys Casino in Lake Tahoe. Nobody checked their ID.

Update:

From Breitbart's BigGovernment.com: James Okeefe Arrested in New Orleans

Statement from Andrew Breitbart:

“We have no knowledge about or connection to any alleged acts and events involving James O’Keefe at Senator Mary Landrieu’s office. We only just learned about the alleged incident this afternoon. We have no information other than what has been reported publicly by the press. Accordingly, we simply are not in a position to make any further comment.”

U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu, took the unusual step of urging the new President to ignore partisan labels and reappoint Letten

Stephanie Grace, “Louisiana U.S. Attorney Jim Letten is Obama’s kind of prosecutor” in Times-Picayune, 2008 December 11.

And Obama’s kind of federal judge too, I’ll wager. A little promotion for nailing the mighty O’Keefe....

Update:

From the Washington Independent:

Rep. Pete Olson (R-Texas):

"Individuals who lawfully expose wrongful activities by an entity like ACORN receiving federal tax dollars should be praised. However, if recent events conclude that any laws were broken in the incident in Senator Landrieu’s office – that is not something I condone. Citizens have an important role in helping to expose waste and/or fraud when their tax dollars are being spent, but it must be done in a lawful manner."

The MSM will blow this up to look like a scandal on the order of the Watergate break-in, and will beat our side over the head with it until the cows come home.

The MSM will be fairly quiet until they're sure they're not making a big deal out of a story that could hurt dems.

If they've "got" O'Keffe - and they're sure - they'll blow this up to be the biggest thing since watergate...

We all have to do what we all have to do. I'm a staunch Conservative, but I will admit there are grays in this world of what some think is strictly black and white.

Theft is immoral and illegal, yet most of us would not fault an impoverished mother in Haiti who needs to steal food for her infant.

Murder is immoral and illegal, yet most of us would not fault the person who shoots and kills a drug addict trying to break into that person's home with murderous intent.

Lying is immoral and illegal, yet myself and millions of other active and former military men and women have been taught in SERE training how to lie QUITE EFFECTIVELY if captured and tortured by the enemy to protect our honor, our country and our lives.

I'll say it again: Moral absolutism enables those who have no morals.

> Are you saying that every federal prosecutor and every
> federal justice is dirty?

No, there are hundreds of thousands of men and women who protect the peace in our country every day in ways we never know.

But few have the guts to override their bosses in Washington.

You need look no further than the Black Panther case, Blagojevich's Illinois corruption, or the Fed's treatment of terrorist “enemy combatants” to see how the Federal Justice System is corrupt and biased, as are many Federal officials in DC who hold and tilt the "blind scales of Justice" — especially those appointed by Barack Hussein Obama.

Now it would appear they have let 3 of the 4 men ‘go’. (including O’Keefe)

As in Cheech and Chong’s , “you can just go”.
