We’re dead broke. Several generations of slaves to the state, yet to be born, are dead broke and these clowns are proposing trains as a solution. I keep hearing Ozzy’s voice in my head. Something about a Crazy Train! All Aboard!

Even experts who favor high-speed rail question whether the awards Obama will announce Thursday can turn into the job generators the administration is hoping for. Because the U.S. has never had the kind of bullet trains found in Europe and Asia, there are no U.S. engineering companies or manufacturers with experience in high-speed rail. Anthony Perl, who heads the National Research Council's panel on intercity passenger rails, said that means much of the technology will have to be purchased abroad.

Ah, well. What's another 8 billion down the hole.

basically a highspeed version of Amtrack. Glen Beck dedicated an entire section of his latest book on Amtrack, and it was mindblowing the money thats wasted each year because of politics and the labor unions.

Oh great, another rail system that we can subsidize for the next hundred years. Drill for oil, it will have twice the impact.

Energy imports are a major part of our trade deficit. Put a tariff on foreign energy imports and produce more at home. Produce much much more coal, natural gas, oil at home. Use more natural gas for transportation. Burn more coal to make electricity to be used by electric automobiles

Being more self reliant this way would help our economy tremendously and give us more energy independence from Muslims, from Mexico and Hugo Chavez. Canada is the only reliable nation we buy energy from

The upside is that when the time comes, they’ll be able to get us all to the ovens much faster! Never get on a government run train...you never know where you’ll end up!

"When all else fails, libs propose high speed rail somewhere, somehow. I take this as a sure sign they know they are failing."

Ain't it the truth! What is it about liberals and trains? Besides the fact that they never make any money and have to be sub...sid...ized....nevermind....

Japanese and Koreans are about the only ones that build production rail based high speed trains. So thats where the majority of this money will flow too.
Euros have developed maglev technology trains which so far only are being put into production in China.

The Obama rehab machine is in full gear.

Who among us is pathetic enough to want this trickle of WH spin?

Why doesn’t Obama just give the bleedin’ speech and let the chips fall where they may?

Liberals love rail projects - maybe because it reminds them of Stalin’s choo choo trains.

The Simpsons has countless examples of spot-on satire but I will always remember MONORAIL!

Political types and greenies in every city apparently don’t get the joke so they persist with similar pie-in-the-sky plans.

Maybe the rails could be used to ride the dems “out on” after they’ve been tarred and feathered.

It would be an enormous help to Michigan. We have natural under the state and under the lakes. Instead we shut down the main pipeline down the center of the state and are trying to go green as the green economy collapses before our eyes.

You have to lay rails extremely precisely for high speed trains. It is always much more expensive. IIRC a lot of the old Amtrak corridors are totally unsuitable to lay high speed track just due to the dips and curves and contours

If 0bama is talking about nine high speed projects this means nine demo projects that amount to NOTHING in each place except for construction jobs. Political motivation is why you have nine different locations

As far as I know there is not one high speed train in America as fast as a Japanese bullet train or a French high speed train. Far better is sinking some billions into just one location where you build a real high speed rail project to show Americans will use it

There won’t be much left after 2010 and even less in 2011. Only a few government ownwd and run “factories”. Like Russia in the 30s, 40s, and 50s ,Eastern Europe in the 50s, Red China in the 50s and 60s.

In order to get a job in one, one first go to Party Headquarters and prove that you are a Party member. Next one must demonstrate your loyalty to the Party.

This is what the masses voted for in 2004.

Rail projects are notorious for their cost overruns, too. The Hampton Roads Transit Light Rail project in Norfolk (7.4 miles) was initially supposed to cost $232 million, but now is up to $340 million, and they are not even halfway done.
