To all of those talking down the economy and constantly harping about how bad things are for political reasons may very well get what they wish for -- complete wipeout of our economy. The end result of that is NOT what everyone is wanting whether they realize it or not.

Oh great, another rail system that we can subsidize for the next hundred years. Drill for oil, it will have twice the impact.

This was needed 40 years ago. They have been debating high speed rail in my area since the mid 70’s. Every 3 yrs or so it comes back in the news and millions are spent on new studies. Then everybody goes back home.

It would certainly be a lot easier (and a lot cheaper) to buy a few high-quality buses...or maybe just airplane tickets for the longer runs.

When all else fails, libs propose high speed rail somewhere, somehow.
I take this as a sure sign they know they are failing.

High-speed rail only works with minimal stops. The fewer stops, the less attractive it is to the average commuter.
Our industries have sprawled out from the cities, hence point-to-point service will get you into the next major city where you will have to take a bus for a few hours to get to your destination.
Of course, high-speed rail links between large metro areas will help ACORN move voters from one area to the next!

If it's such a good idea why not announce it during the S of the U? Guess maybe he doesn't want to risk either a "tumbleweed moment" or the entire Congress rolling in the aisles.
