A noted Supreme Court historian who “enthusiastically” voted for President Obama in November 2008 today called President Obama’s criticism of the Supreme Court in his State of the Union address last night “really unusual” and said he wouldn’t be surprised if no Supreme Court Justices attend the speech next year.
“It was really unusual in my mind to see the president going after the Supreme Court in such a forum,” said author and Law Professor Lucas Powe, the Anne Green Regents Chair in Law, and a Professor of Government at the University of Texas-Austin School of Law. “I’m willing to bet a lot of money there will be no Supreme Court justice at the next State of the Union speech.”
Added Professor Powe, who clerked for Supreme Court Justice William Douglas, “you don’t go to be insulted. I can’t see the Justices wanting to be there and be insulted by the president.” His opinion has nothing to do with animus towards the President, for whom Powe said he voted enthusiastically.
President Obama took the apparently unprecedented step of assailing a Supreme Court decision in his speech last night, saying, “with all due deference to separation of powers, last week the Supreme Court reversed a century of law to open the floodgates for special interests – including foreign corporations – to spend without limit in our elections. Well I don't think American elections should be bankrolled by America's most powerful interests, or worse, by foreign entities. They should be decided by the American people, and that's why I'd urge Democrats and Republicans to pass a bill that corrects some of these problems."(continued)

I hope you are not being precarious...this public stripping of power and open humiliation is only a precursor to things to come....justifications, however lame, for the inevitable abuse of power that was clearly threatened and in several instances, already carried out.
I just went and rewatched the viodo with no sound. None of the Judges looks very pleased with what he did.I hope the dems realize that by Obama making enemies with those who decide if your laws are constitutional or not is not a very good idea?

Does he think that HE is the FIRST PRESIDENT in our history to disagree with a Supreme Court decision? Does he think he is a GOD? Does he think he has the right, because he is President, to PUBLICALLY go after other folks who are simply doing their jobs because HE, the great, big in love with hisself UHBAMA is some sort of dictator who gets to have EVERYTHING done his way? We dont know that, the U.S. Supreme court could in fact be intimidate by him, if he has the support of congress then he could in fact try to stack the court.
The court might go along for that reason alone. We wont know until we see what the court does, if then.
I dont have a problem with insulting the U.S. supreme court perhaps not in the forum of a State of the Union address but the court in the past has done a great many bad things. But most of them have generally been directed in-favor of the Federal government they are beholden to not against.
More like the Enabling Act, Obama as Hitler and the Supreme Court as Otto Wells.

I have never heard of a President “going at” the Supreme Court like that. They are a co-equal branch of government and are considered to be above politics. He just drug them down into the muck of Chicago thug politics that he lives in and has forever cheapened both them and the Office of the President.
