HONOLULU (AP) -- Hawaii lawmakers declined to vote Friday on a bill that would have allowed same-sex civil unions, effectively killing the measure.
The state House of Representatives decided to indefinitely postpone a decision on whether to grant gay and lesbian couples the same rights and benefits the state provides to married couples.
The state Senate had approved a civil unions bill last week. But House leadership wavered on pushing the controversial issue. Last year, 33 of 51 House members voted in favor of civil unions.
Civil union supporters in the crowded House gallery on Friday shouted, "Shame on you!" while opponents cheered.

Excellent!
Good! The whole place would have become an homo Mecca for them if it had passed...effectively killing most of their normal tourism...their main industry.
Good! Needed taking down!
Queers like to move in and take over just like other undesirables do. They can’t be content to become part of the community. No. They have to make spectacles of themselves and totally disrespect the rights and preferences of the established community.
We’re winning.
People will still get Lei’d
You dont have to tell me. I’m close to west Hollywood and know of these degenerates. There’s a reason why “dont ask, dont tell” wont work: the homos have a mentality of “gay first, soldier second” instead of the other way around. It’s always them, them, them and not the people around them.
We in Taxholechusetts were told of the potential MILLIONS of dollars gay “weddings” were going to pour into the state economy...
...then why did they raise the sales tax by 25% last year?
PLEASE!!!
From Massachusetts to Hawaii, things they are achangin
I’m on the Big Island and spent an hour on the phone last night calling all Representatives from this Island, leaving long messages, and had a 20 minute conversation with the Demo Rep from Kona. Glad we put this one on ice for now!
Pleasantly surprised by this outcome.
Great news!
We got caught in grid lock traffic on Ala Moana heading out to the airport a few years back during a Gay Pride parade. First hand experience on why even one of the most liberal states wouldn’t want to encourage such behavior.
Wow. Good news.
Mahalo nui loa.
Many thanks for your efforts to stop this terrible bill from passing.
Stop the freaks from being brought into “normality”.
Hawaii remembered what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah.
