Wknd Box Office: Anti-Semite Melís Far-Left Garbage, Evil GOP Mass U.S. ... (Debbie Schlussel Alert)
Debbie Schlussel ^ | 1/29/2010 | Debbie Schlussel

Posted on 01/29/2010 8:48:31 PM PST by goldstategop

“Edge of Darkness“:

You know the drill: an evil American defense contractor (aren’t they all evil, in the Hollywood playbook?) mass-murders innocent left-wing activists and employees who are trying to expose the company’s evil activities. Oh, and did I mention that the defense contractor, “Northmoor” (probably supposed to be Northrop),” is in bed with an evil, effeminate Republican Massachusetts U.S. Senator, to whose campaign its CEO is a big contributor? Well, they made this movie before Scott Brown’s election, but ya never know. Things can always be quickly edited to fit Hollywood’s latest propaganda narrative.

But, wait. .... Then, there’s the “conspiracy”: the evil the company is trying to hide is that it manufactures dirty bombs and nuclear weapons for the Defense Department, which are designed to look like they were made in third party countries. The word “jihadist” is used in reference to that (”jihadist dirty bombs”), so apparently, sub rosa, evil America is framing or trying to frame the jihadists and “other countries” in terrorist attacks and poisoning left-wing activists with radiation. Nauseating enough for you?

Mel Gibson plays a Boston cop (with a transparently inaccurate Boston accent), whose daughter was an employee of the defense contractor. She was helping the left-wing activists and trying to expose the company’s evil, villainous activities. The activists died of radiation poisoning that the defense contractor visited upon them to kill them. And Gibson’s daughter is poisoned and shot. He investigates, preaches and moralizes, is in a lot of action scenes, and makes friends with a hitman. Then, everyone dies. Capitalism, defense contractors, and America’s weapons to defend itself and our national security–all of these are evil. The end. ...

The only truism here is that, Mel Gibson’s Jew-hatred aside, there’s something in this movie for every flavor of America-hater and far-lefty.

This is a good review of "Edge." Mel Gibson redeemed himself with the Hollywood Left by making a film that tarred Republicans and defamed defense contractors. Its a vile of high quality Bin Laden cinema dreck. Avoid at ALL COSTS. In this movie, as Debbie Schlussel rightly says, "there’s something in this movie for every flavor of America-hater and far-lefty." Skip-worthy, indeed.

You will not like a movie that attacks American values, apologizes for the war on terror and views defending this country evil. Its too much to expect a pro-American film from Hollywood in the Age Of Obama.

I saw the movie today, and did not see anything antisemitic about it what so ever. Yeah, the anti-government element is central to the theme, but so what?

It's entertainment, just an action suspense story. I liked the movie because it affirmed positive a father daughter family relationship, and did not have a bunch of sex and degenerate overtones. Just my take.

Oh. I guess that explains that headline I read today that maybe Mel should be forgiven. I didn’t read further but after seeing this now it makes sense. He made a movie bashing America so of course the Left would forgive. Not that they hated him for the anti-semitic slurs noooo....The Passion of the Christ was why they hated him. The Jew slurs were just a convenient excuse to send him packing.

The Passion of the Christ is the *GREATEST* movie *EVER* made.

The movie where someone's tortured on-screen for upwards of 2 hours? Yechh...give me The Ten Commandments & Charlton Heston any day. Now there's a religious epic I can watch time and again.

Huh. I wouldn’t summarize the movie as being about torture myself but then I liked the film.

(from Wikipedia)

Film critic Roger Ebert, who rated the movie four-out-of-four stars, said in his review:

The movie is 126 minutes long, and I would guess that at least 100 of those minutes, maybe more, are concerned specifically and graphically with the details of the torture and death of Jesus. This is the most violent film I have ever seen.

Ebert also mentioned that the R-rated film merits the MPAA NC-17 rating in a "Movie Answer Man" response, adding that no level-minded parent should ever allow children to see it.

As you said, to each their own.

While I do have some issues with some of the Passion of the Christ (the parts that are from Catherine Emmerich’s visions), it IS a very accurate portrayal of Roman torture and Crucifixion practices based upon texts and archeology.

That said, spiritually and as a Christian, watching the film puts an entirely new light on the sufferings the Lord Jesus Christ went through on our behalf.

Of course, the fact that I could follow the Aramaic made the movie fun for me.

I remember last year when that violently anti-American Turkish movie with Gary Busey came out and everyone was all up in arms. The Hollywood response has been, clearly, to try to capture that market.

Since when is Gibson an “open antisemite?”

Maybe it’s not an experience that everyone has, but I have said things that didn’t really reflect my considered opinion when distraught, and especially when distraught and drinking.

You wish you could unsay them, and you’re ashamed of yourself, but it’s too late.

Sometimes people who actually are on the receiving end of racial hatred can be just a little quick on the trigger, seeing it where it’s not as well as where it is.

If Gibson were king, I really doubt that he would do anything to persecute or disadvantage the Jews.

“Too bad Gibson imagined the Roman occupiers speaking Latin instaed of Koine.”

So, Roman soldiers wouldn’t have spoken Latin among themselves? I just did a quick scan of a few articles on that, and some people seem to think that such a thing wouldn’t have been unusual.

“Sorry, but it was theologically bad fetishization of violence.”

Theologically bad only in relation to bad theology. As for “fetishization,” ummm...no. The depiction of Our Lord’s bitter passion and death was brutal only because it was a depiction of a brutal event.

LAst time I checked, what made Jesus special was not that he was one of many Messianic claimants killed either by the Edomite-dominated vichy-like colonial junta or by the Romans, but that he supposedly rose from the dead.

“Catherine Emmerich delusions in place of Gospel is bad theology.”

It is your prerogative to disbelieve in any personal revelation. However, Catherine Emmerich’s writings do not conflict with or contradict Scripture in any way.

“In a legion for Anatolia and Syria, not all that likely.”

Was that legion composed of soldiers recruited from those areas?

“LAst time I checked, what made Jesus special was not that he was one of many Messianic claimants killed either by the Edomite-dominated vichy-like colonial junta or by the Romans, but that he supposedly rose from the dead.”

Yes, He did, and that’s what gives His suffering such meaning. Had He been just a man, it would have been brutal, but not redemptive. It would have been a man suffering, and not God suffering for mankind.
