Haiti's voodoo high priest has claimed believers have been discriminated against by evangelical Christians who are monopolising aid sent to the earthquake-stricken country.
Max Beauvoir, Haiti's "supreme master" of voodoo, alleged his faith's opponents had deliberately prevented much-needed help from reaching followers of the religion, which blends the traditional beliefs of West African slaves with Roman Catholicism.
"The evangelicals are in control and they take everything for themselves," he claimed. "They have the advantage that they control the airport where everything is stuck. They take everything they get to their own people and that's a shame.
"Everyone is suffering the same and has the same needs. We are not asking for anything more than anyone else. We're just asking for it to be fair."
Mr Beauvoir, 75, a Sorbonne-educated biochemist, spoke as a first convoy of aid arrived at his home in Mariani, a town just outside Port-au-Prince. It contained 400 sacks of rice from the World Food Programme and was mobbed by hundreds of hungry voodoo believers.
"It is the first delivery and it took a couple of weeks fight to get that for the voodoo people," said Mr Beauvoir.

Now wait a minute, I thought I saw statistics that most Haitians are dual Catholic/voodoo practitioners. Who’s interfering? Wouldn’t the gospel preaching Christians want to look good to those enslaved to voodoo?
Nothing good comes from summoning animist spirits to do one’s bidding.
What are the Christians doing? Stealing the tens of millions of dollars worth of aid sent in by Voodoo charities around the world?
From here, it looks like endless attempts to appease these spirits. News flash: the spirits of Hell are never going to be happy so you might as well walk out on it. God is not going to hold that door open forever. (And shame on selfish Christians who are not redeeming the time for the sake of the gospel of salvation.)
Uggoh Boobah
the christian ministries were already on the ground. they have been doing for haiti (for years) what mr. voodoo and his followers wouldn’t. taking care of present needs and trying to give them a hope and future.
The Church of God in Haiti suffered terrible losses among its churches - both people and properties. Much of the aid being given is flowing through existing channels, which is the church network.
All other things being equal, if your house and your neighbor’s house both collapse in an earthquake, your first priority will be to rescue and feed your wife and children before you turn your attention to your neighbor.
Voodoo practitioners may want to reassess their spiritual affiliations if they are dissatisfied with the outcomes.
Nice. Wonder why his gods haven’t done anything. Maybe his gods are sleeping. He should be thankful Elijah isn’t running the rescue effort.
“...said voodoo predicted the earthquake six months ago.”
Well then, why weren’t you voodoers more prepared?
They thought they had voodooed it away.
I’m sure loyal Voodoo adherents worldwide are gathering resources at this very moment to provide for their Cousins in Haiti.
Ok mister voodoo “Supreme Master”, why don’t you just cast a spell that compels eveyone to bring aid to you ? LOL....
He should put out a special appeal to Wiccans.
Good luck with that.
What he means to say is, "They have an existing, well-organized, disciplined system of distribution and we don't"
What else would you expect to come out of Satan’s mouthpiece?
I can’t understand why the Grand Priest of Voodoo just doesn’t stick a pin in all his enemies? Ouch! what’s that pain I just felt in the back of my neck?
Dungeons and Dragons called, they want their 9th level Cleric title back.
Gee how much aid is coming from Muslim charities???
