The capper came Thursday when, at the top of the 7 o'clock hour, right after Vice President Joe Biden, Bush made a rare network television appearance on NBC's Today Show. The intensely private Bush's interview with the overly familiar Matt Lauer rattled Florida political circles.
Was this the beginning of a Jeb juggernaut that would culminate in a 2012 presidential bid?

A little local insite. Ol Jeb was one of the originators of the CSX payoff that will help bankrupt Florida and load more liability on the local folk. Between Charlie Crist chasing insurance companies away and Jeb making sure his CSX buddies are taken care of, Florida is one train wreck and/or one hurricane away from bankruptcy.
GW was who we needed on 9/11. But he was not a fiscal conservative. He also was for amnesty and the Dubai takeover of some of our ports. He was a mixed bag.
I'm with you on that. The fact that he's been a sitting governor carries a lot of weight with me, as opposed to some Congresscriter who does everything he can to focus blame everywhere but upon himself. He also knows how to lead in a crisis, case-in-point being his management of hurricane response and his assumption of responsibility/blame when things ran unsmoothly.
So I take it that Jeb showed up at this prayer vigil and led you and everyone else into the SWAT team to get arrested.

I have a general rule of thumb that I don’t view anyone as Presidential timber who hasn’t won a statewide race, even in a small state. I think it demonstrates the ability to draw support from a wide coalition and gives someone a broader perspective than being a congressman.
I guess I want a Reagan, someone who handles his administration politically so that another Republican can succeed him in a Presidential election. Neither Bush handled their Presidency in a manner that did not tear up the party - basically, they tolerate Conservatives...just tolerate them. The result was a Democrat President following both Bushes.
While GW gets applauded for Iraq, remember following the invasion, the haste to hand it over to the Iraqis. His Dad also left unfinished business in regards to Desert Storm. Frankly off the cuff, we should not get into a war which we are not going to fight like hell to win. AND like it or not, stay in the country for a minimum of a generation to change the culture.
I do not fault the Democrats for not walking to the other side of the aisle. I wish GW and the Congressional Republicans played as dirty as the Dims. GW’s reach across for No Child Left Behind and Expansion of Medicare resulted in MORE SOCIAL SPENDING. These are what set the stage for Republicans to be viewed as little different from Democrats.
It strikes me as dangerous that a nation with one third of a billion people would elect three men from the same family as their leader.
Politics aside, this has a banana republic feel to it.
We have to remember that he was a Republican and not a conservative.

Daddy was on the ticket in 1980 and 1984 as well.
The GOP had a Bush or a Dole on the ticket every Presidential election cycle from 1976 to 2004 - 28 years.
I do remember that, and to that regard, some things he promoted disappointed me greatly, I don’t know what else there is to say.
Now that you mention that name, I still say no political dynasties BUT I would HAVE to seriously consider making an exception for a Reagan, for MICHAEL Reagan, NOT Ron.
Thanks for the link. If this was your answer to my question, then the answer is that a candidate must agree with ALL of those issues listed. That’s fine with me, and it’d sure be nice, but in my years of experience that’s like lookin’ for a needle in a haystack.
If it’s this hard to find ONE candidate that meets our conservative ideals, then it’s no wonder we can’t find enough to run for House & Senate.
I thought Sarah Palin fit that bill pretty darn good, but have read comments here that paint her as a “rino”. From what I’ve witnessed, one conservative’s “pure” candidate is another conservative’s “rino”. Disheartening to say the least.

I think the biggest obstacle isn’t us but the Repub hierarchy who picked Scozzafava instead of Hoffman because it was “her turn”. That article was posted on FR. There is also a movement to get more conservatives in local party positions so that doesn’t happen again and work our way up.
For George W. Bush, the hundreds of billions poured into Medicare Part D must forever be remembered as a major expansion of government spending.
And a Republican did it, make no mistake.
