Police: Woman deported by fake marshal

SAN DIEGO - A Hemet man was arrested after successfully posing as a U.S. Marshal and transporting a 'prisoner' through San Diego International Airport last month.

Gregory R. Denny, 37, was arrested on January 18, 2010, for identifying himself as a U.S. Marshal and falsely imprisoning a woman three days prior to the arrest.

According to published reports, Suzanne Trevino, spokeswoman for the Transportation Security Administration, said in a telephone interview that an investigation has revealed that someone who presented "falsified law enforcement documents" was able to get past security and eventually make it to a gate with a prisoner. The individual presented himself as a law enforcement officer and followed the proper procedures, including logging in, she said.

"We are working with law enforcement and other departments to make sure this does not happen again," Trevino said.

According to witnesses, Denny went to a residence on 1200 block of Stepstone Ct. in Hemet and identified himself as a U.S. Marshal. He was wearing clothing with "U.S. Marshal" printed on it, had a badge around his neck, a gun belt, and displayed an apparent handgun.

Denny then handcuffed a woman who lived in the home, and stated he was detaining and deporting her. She was driven to the U.S. Border Patrol station in Murrieta, California. Denny was told the female had no warrant in the computer system and they would not accept his "prisoner."

From the station, Denny drove the victim to the San Diego International Airport, where he escorted the handcuffed "prisoner" through the airport and to the gate of a departing flight.

After getting passed security Denny un-handcuffed his victim and she boarded the plane to the Philippines.

The residents living at the place the victim was kidnapped reported the incident to the Hemet Police Department.

The Hemet police contacted Denny about the report and checked his credentials with the U.S. Marshal's Service. He initially identified himself to the police as a U.S. Marshal and verified the incident as reported by the residents.

U.S. Marshal's Service had no record of Denny's employment by any law enforcement agency in any capacity.

Denny was arrested by the Hemet police for kidnapping, false imprisonment, impersonation of a peace officer, burglary, and false arrest.

He was booked at the Riverside County Southwest Detention Center and is out on bail of $75,000.

Riverside County District Attorney's office is leading the investigation and has not officially charged Denny.

T.S.A., FBI, U.S. Marshal's Service and U.S. Border Patrol were all notified about the incident by "local law enforcement" about the breach in security. None of the agencies have confirmed if policies have changed due to this incident.

Snap out of it, sonny boy, and grow up.

The fake ones are doing a better job than the real ones according to the title.

You’re on a good track to stay that way.

Please, make sure your last of kin know your final wishes and desires for disposition. And try not to take any innocents out when ya finally blow your top. It just wouldn’t be right, ya know.

“after successfully posing as a U.S. Marshal and transporting a ‘prisoner’ through San Diego International Airport last month. “

Quite a feat.
Almost as good as Michael Weston, but Michael wouldn’t have gotten caught.

Now, here's the potential for a very good scam ...

Say, someone wants to return to their home country without having to pay for the ticket ...

Get someone to pose as a US Marshal to escort you through security and put you a plane for your "deportation". Free plane ride home ...

Disturbing to you? I was shocked when I saw this story because I met Greg Denny on the job in Hemet, Ca this past December.

He showed me his Federal badge and another piece of military identification not mentioned in the story. He was spending half a day with me on the job because I was taking the next day off and he was replacing me.

I was taking the next day off to visit the Riverside FBI regarding a continuous string of visitors to my worksites who would take my picture or engage me in conversations that would take sudden and violent turns in content. These visits started after I filed a complaint with CA Dept of Labor after I was sent home for calling ICE on some contractors.

I am no expert on ID but what he showed me looked official enough and after he was on the job for about an hour, I got the impression he was conducting some sort of profile on me.

Imagine that. DOH!

It did not make sense to me that a Federal marshal would take work as a security guard and after experiencing a year of photography visits and strange conversations I concluded, midway through that morning, his presence there might be serving a dual purpose.

I’ll say this for Mr. Denny. I don’t know who or what he works for but he was one credible federal marshal and I thought he was a likeable guy, despite the possibility he was trying to entrap me.

I imagine that sounds pretty unlikely but I want to tell you, California was one strange trip.
