Under the proposed change, the ninth-graders would take a course called global studies, focusing in part on issues such as the environment. The 10th grade still would study civics and economics, but 11th-graders would take U.S. history only from 1877 onward.

What the **** is "global studies"? Sounds like a course indoctrinating students in every leftist pet cause. The starting of history in 1877 is right out of 1984. Of course they want to start in 1877 since the is on the cusp of the Progressive Era and the start of Big Government repudiating the Founding Fathers.

Global studies is "world history". I had a year of that before I had American history. And that was 25^H^H 15 years ago.

as long as we're rewriting history ....

It also very conveniently (for them) gets rid of the Constitution and Bill or Rights and all the other critical founding documents.

Without Helms there to keep an eye on them, the people of NC have gone over the abyss.

On the other hand, if we start US history in 1877, then slavery never happened in US history. So we can drop all mention of it and not allow comments like “legacy of slavery” to be used to justify poor performance.

More importantly, they eliminate that pesky history of the Republican Party being formed to eradicate slavery and that even more pesky history of the Democrat Party terrorizing blacks in the south during Reconstruction and throwing out elected black Congressmen.

I had global studies in 9th grade, but US history in 10th, and civics/government in 11th. 12th I took college level history. However it is very common to break up the semester in pre and post reconstruction. I was taught the US didn’t really start until after the Civil War anyways (load of crap)
