As to Sotamayer, I read where Medina chastised Hutchison for not backing her. If I can find the links again I will post them however I wouldn’t doubt they have been scrubbed.

PMR: In August, you posted an article called "Latinos and the GOP" on your campaign website, which many conservatives would find troubling. You seemed to be criticizing Kay Bailey Hutchison for voting against Sonia Sotomayor on the Supreme Court, and saying that her vote will make it harder to attract Hispanics to the GOP.
Snip...DM: Kay Bailey Hutchison was absolutely correct to vote against Sotomayor; the problem I was addressing is that the GOP has treated Latinos so poorly for so long that George Lopez was able to characterize this as a racially motivated "no" vote instead of a "no" vote based on the fact she was the wrong candidate on the issues.

She sure has an opinion. I don't agree with it, but she can sure have it.
As I said, she's pandering to a specific subset for votes.
"I sympathize with you and your plight, you poor mistreated things, and the others don't, so vote for me." (like good emotional zombies)
The vatos aren't loco, though they are proud, and they know exactly what she's doing. Talking down to them and playing them as victims isn't going to get their vote. She's the one driving them away instead of bringing them in.
