Labor leaders 'fuming' over Scott Brown assuming Senate seat today
Washington Examiner ^ | 2-4-10 | Mark Hemingway

Posted on 02/04/2010 3:31:15 PM PST by truthandlife

Earlier this week, I noted that Democrats were frantically trying do some special favors for labor unions before Scott Brown was seated and Democrats lost their supermajority in the Senate. They succeeded in getting Patricia Smith, the Obama administration's nominee for Solicitor of Labor, through a party-line cloture vote, even though it's entirely likely she lied in her Senate testimony about a program she was involved in as New York's labor commissioner that unjustly benefited unions.

However, with Scott Brown being seated today and Democrats losing their supermajority, Big Labor may well have just seen their secret weapon shot down.

More than Smith, Big Labor had a lot riding on the nomination of Craig Becker to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Becker, a lawyer for the AFL-CIO and the SEIU, authored a paper as a law professor about how the NLRB could be used to enact a sweeping overhaul of labor laws that would benefit unions, and all without congressional approval.

Becker dismissed questions about the paper saying he would be "practical" while serving on the NLRB. However, that seems dubious given how hard labor leaders were pushing his nomination. And Becker had already authored one of Obama's executive orders dealing with labor regulations. Not surprisingly, the executive order benefited unions.

But now that Brown has been seated, it's very probable that his nomination will be filibustered. After being unable to pass card check legislation and unhappy with the Democrats' proposed "cadillac tax" in health care legislation, Big Labor is going ballistic about the likely failure of Becker's nomination. According to Sam Stein at the Huffington Post, labor leaders are "fuming":

But the recriminations over granting Brown an early start date are already flying. Becker's nomination to the head of the NLRB was supposed to be considered while Democrats still had 60 votes. Party leadership had planned to hold a confirmation vote this week, multiple sources tell the Huffington Post.

But a series of delays, engineered primarily by Sen. John McCain (R-Ari.), pushed consideration back. And as things stand now, a full Senate vote on Becker will not take place before Brown is granted a vote -- leaving the nomination either completely dead or in deep peril.

"Democrats were outmaneuvered yet again," emailed a labor source who was granted anonymity to speak freely. "I'm used to us caving, but they didn't even [try to delay Brown's seating]. They just hit the mat.

"I love how we cave to the Republicans and won't seat our Senator, [Al] Franken. Then we reverse cave and seat their senator. I mean forget the analogy of one is playing checkers and the other playing chess. It's like one is playing chess while the other is sitting there picking their nose."

Fumigated Labor, This is a hot bed for Donk’s Clinton, Schumer, all knew about this, Had visits to the hall to raise money and grant favors;

A former organizer for Operating Engineers Local 17 on Wednesday became the first person pleading guilty in connection with a labor racketeering case filed against construction union leaders almost two years ago.

James L. Minter III admitted that he engaged in a decade-long conspiracy, using threats, harassment and extortion against non-union construction workers and companies throughout Western New York.

The 38-year-old Buffalo man pleaded guilty Wednesday morning to a felony charge of racketeering conspiracy, appearing before U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny.

Illegal hardball tactics by Local 17 added millions of dollars to the costs of construction projects in the region over a 10-year period, according to federal prosecutors and agents.

Over the years, members of the local have been involved in disputes with non-union contractors at many major construction sites in the region, including Ralph Wilson Stadium, Roswell Park Cancer Institute and Buffalo State College.

Under advisory sentencing guidelines, Minter faces a possible prison term of at least four years and three months.

Minter admitted that he engaged in vandalism and intimidation against officials of five companies

Their Senator? They mean the one who trounced Coakley by 5.5%, vs Franken who used ACORN to fraud to steal the election.

Anonymous Source, hereafter refered to as Dimm Bulb, fails to see a difference between 225 votes found in the trunk of a car owned by a Dimmocrat official, and the margin for Sen Brown; 100,000... Dimm Bulb is willfully clueless...

Franken’s election was in the courts for months.

That is hardly the case with Brown, but the dems never do let the facts get in thie way of their lies.

It’s an election year with a tough primary. McCain is a conservative 17% of the time. (1 out of every 6 years).

Just the beginning, merely the tiniest tip of a Titanic trashing iceberg! Watching the Dembiciles' heads explode as the GOP blocks their power-grabs and Americans cheer them on is going to be some much needed medicine. Ahhhhh...

...how do you spell "relief?"

. . . a possible prison term of at least four years and three months.

So he might be "punished" by staying in a union-built prison while supported by taxpayers to the tune of ?$?$ along with three meals a day and MSNBC privileges. Great.

It wasn't all that long ago thugs were placed into stocks for public derision. A little spit on the face never hurt anyone. Or maybe even panties on the head. Oooooooh!

Labor leaders "fuming". Fuming, eh? hehheh...

It reeks, and is applied to what are called "fume boards" which are placed on honey supers to drive the bees out, before accessing the combs for harvesting.

Tempting, so-ooo tempting. Though I'm sort-of pro-labor in a way, the history of many labor leaders, and their current politics, is enough to make one want to anoint their heads with this particular, uh, oil.

What garbage! Franken's entire election was a FRAUD, and there was NO DELAY in seating his unfit ass. Thanks truthandlife, thanks Scott Brown, thanks John McCain, and thank you Massachusetts.
