Classic case of what I call covering ignorance with arrogance.

It’s because of their overriding principle. You find it in every liberal idea, every liberal conversation. When I walk into a bunch of libs talking, it’s in every sentence...

“People shouldn’t be allowed to DO that!” (say that, feel that, whatever).

Liberals apparently don’t know anything at all.

But they don’t know it with complete confidence.

Which is why they are liberals.

appear committed to the proposition that their views are correct, self-evident, and based on fact and reason, while conservative positions are not just wrong but illegitimate, ideological and unworthy of serious consideration.

Not so ironically, this is an apt description of the Washington Post.

But American liberals, to a degree far surpassing conservatives, appear committed to the proposition that their views are correct, self-evident, and based on fact and reason,
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

This sentence reminds of the NPR voice. That condescending, whiny, distinctive, and pretentious speaking accent absolutely grates on my nerves.

Condescension is a natural state for those who are of noble birth.
With liberals, condescension is a natural state because they THINK they are noble.................

The stupid “snarky” smiles of Olberdork, Maddow, and others at MSNBC make me sick. Was a pleasure to watch them eat crow on Scott Brown night.

It's very simple: Liberals or Progressives know what's best for you. The masses are too small-minded to comprehend the real world so they have to be lead like sheep to slaughter by the elite (or the progressive's who know what's best).

Liberals are either still in adolescence or they are clinging to it.

Liberal views are infused with the hopey/changey utopianism of immaturity...hence the old adage that "a conservative is a liberal who has been mugged" (by reality).

Here's a visual example (reach for barf bag)...

The funny part about the article is that if you read Hofstadter, without all the pointing fingers to conservatives, he is describing modern liberalism more accurately.

Liberal opinions are based on feelings not facts. Feelings can’t be proven wrong, regardless of how irrational they might be. Consequently, they conclude that they must be right.

So much of liberalism is emotion driven and not supported by facts, so they substitute self-righteousness and near religious zeal to prop up their absurdity.

The really stupid thing is that their positions can be factually proven wrong. None of their "facts" are true.

A very interesting article. I want to re-read it later when I am not distracted.

“This condescension is part of a long liberal tradition that for generations has impoverished American debates”

The bastions of liberalism are found in the cities and on college campuses. Those who devote themselves to higher education (particularly the social sciences) develop their own psuedo-intellectual superiority complex, and the urbane urban folks typically look down on people living in rural areas as unsophisticated and uncultured.

Libtards like to think they are on the cutting edge, and they have a desire to belong and not be ostracized by their peers, so they jump on the bandwagon to hell of ideas that ultimately prove to be unsatisfactory.

They are a case of arrested development. Having arrived at an youth’s idealism ... they lock down on it, and allow no further development of their understanding.

Sad really. Pray for them.

Because they consider liberalism to be "scientific" and conservatism to be based on faith, custom, and "ignorance."

Liberals also share with many conservatives the tendency to live in ideological bubble communities, reinforcing ideological conformity, thinking that "all normal people think like this." Leftists who live in places like Oklahoma don't have this problem, even though their ideology is still warped.

The liberals have the media establishment so their condescending tone and views are what is heard. It goes "All experts know or say that we are right..."

Take the economy and the failed stimulus bill. Obama claimed to have 100 economists that said it would work and now claim that EVERY economist say it was a success. Paul Krugman is STILL saying a huge national debt funding grossly expensive government ‘jobs’ is the true way of saving the economy. He is critical of Obama for running up too small of deficits and is a perfect example of this (Obama is especially arrogant).

This is the first opportunity the general public has had to to see what liberals are about in about a decade,
