'Idol' producers want Howard Stern to replace Cowell
NY Post ^ | February 5, 2010

"American Idol" producers are eager to hire Howard Stern to replace Simon Cowellas the show's tough-talking judge, sources tell Page Six.

An insider said that producers of the hit Fox show say Stern, America's highest-paid radio personality, is their top choice to take over from Cowell, who leaves at the end of this season. They approached the King of All Media after he repeatedly mentioned on-air that his exclusive Sirius XM Radio deal expires next January and he was open to other offers. Cowell was paid $50 million a year.

A source connected to "Idol" said, "It's one of the few shows that could compete with Stern's $100 million-a-year Sirius contract, and 'Idol' bosses think he'd be even nastier than Simon.

"They know he would be great TV and would clash with the other judges such as Ellen DeGeneres and the contestants. 'Idol' will do what it takes to sign him."

They lost me with Ellen. Now this? The show is finished if they bring him on.

The amateurs who fail out at the audition will look more professional than the next panel of judges.

Are they burning down the show for the insurance money?

I’m not-watching Idol this year because of their DeGeneres choice. I can certainly not-watch next year because of their Stern choice.

My 12 and 16 year old daughters will NOT be allowed to view any longer if this is the case! This could be “American Idol’s” “jump the shark” moment! Sad. Great show. Simon is rude but likeable and honest about contestants. Stern will be lewd, crude and nasty! Why not just get Larry Flynt?

I think it was finished with Ellen.

Why not just get Larry Flynt?

Maybe he will complete the panel.

“They lost me with Ellen....”

At least Ellen is nice. Stern is a complete and utter mean, classless swine.

This can only end badly. A filth mouth like Stern, will inevitably say something foul, and get the network sued.

This must be where the guy who hired Kathy Lee Griffin to host NBCs New Years Eve Specials, got his new job.

Might not be a bad fit. Simon’s caustic wit is the only reason we watch idol anyway.

She hasn’t started yet. They’ve been having guest judges so I watched up until that point. She starts next week. I hope the rating take a dive. It started out as good clean fun entertainment for the family - a break from politics. Between Adam and now Ellen, it’s morphing into gay idol and they can keep it.
