Palin's campaign against the "R-word" hits snag with Limbaugh

Sarah Palin's campaign against the derogatory usage of the word "retard" collided with her campaign to maintain her popularity with conservatives today, with confusing results.

A Palin spokeswoman seemed to back away from earlier criticism of conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh. Yesterday, when asked for comment on Limbaugh's use of the "r" word in a recent broadcast, Palin spokeswoman told Greg Sargent of the Washington Post, "Governor Palin believes crude and demeaning name-calling at the expense of others is disrespectful." Today, Stapleton claims the statement was meant generally and she was not specifically referring to Limbaugh. Still, she declined to say that Palin believes Limbaugh's statements were acceptable. Sargent reprinted the email he sent Stapleton in which he specifically asked about Limbaugh's statement.

Palin's non-rebuke rebuke of Limbaugh comes after she called on President Obama, earlier in the week, to fire his chief of staff after using the word. According to the Wall Street Journal, Rahm Emanuel called liberal activists who wanted to run ads against conservative Democrats "f------ retarded" in a closed-door meeting at the White House. On her Facebook page, Palin likened Emanuel's "slur on all God's children with cognitive and developmental disabilities" to using the "N-word," something she deemed "unacceptable" and "heartbreaking." Emanuel later issued an apology to Special Olympics chairman and CEO Tim Shriver.

However, Palin's conservative cohort Rush Limbaugh took offense to people, presumably including Palin, protesting Emanuel's remark. On his radio show, Limbaugh lamented that "our political correct society is acting like some giant insult's taken place by calling a bunch of people who are retards, retards." That comment caused Greg Sargent to request a reaction from Palin's spokeswoman. It also caused confusion over whether Palin believes Limbaugh's public statements -

Wow! The State-run media has a single storyline from which they can attack BOTH Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin at once.

Of course. The right hand man to the President bashes liberals and the media uses it to bash Limbaugh and Palin. Makes perfect sense... um.. not.

Palin likened Emanuel's "slur on all God's children with cognitive and developmental disabilities"

No it wasn't. It was a slur against his political enemies.

Emanuel later issued an apology to Special Olympics chairman and CEO Tim Shriver.

But not to his political enemies, the ones he actually insulted.

she declined to say that Palin believes Limbaugh's statements were acceptable.

Somehow they're trying to make this about Limbaugh, rather than about the guy who actually delivered the insult.

In my opinion, if I used the word to describe someone who has Down's Syndrome, then its unacceptable, and no one I know would ever do it. If on the other hand I use it to describe rank and file O-zombies, then there are times when there is no better word. Its not offensive at all, its a word that exactly fits the purpose.

yahoo as well as all liberal (do not check your facts first) news group are not reporting how Rush was parroting RahmE boy with his show..... They need to listen to the whole show so that it is not taken out of context....then this would not be an issue. Next week will be another one for Rush, he is planning on ordered fried chicken, black eyed peas and water mellow for his staff in honor of black history month....BECAUSE of what NBC did by having that on their menu in honor of black history month.... I am sure Rush will be attacked as racist without a mention of NBC

BULLSTALIN.

Rush discussed this yesterday. Since the media is rolling off of a redacted account (as typically circulated by George Soros’ Media Matters), it is understandable when you know their playbook.

For the entire first hour on Thursday, Rush said the word only because that's how it was being reported in the media. (He was reading media accounts)

Then as he said today, the only people who got what he was attempting to do yesterday, are people who don't actually work in the media.

This whole thing was stupid. Palin should have never made a big deal out of this. When did conservatives turn into such pansy's. She better be prepared to eat some crow if she ever, ever uses a slang term that could offend some sensitive group.

I give it 3 months before someone is jumping all over her for saying something similar, it won't be fair, but she brought it on herself.

Anyone with an IQ of a mouse, knows what the deal is here. The maggots of the left just cannot do any better. They have NOTHING to offer America, only destroy it and take from it.

They are filth. Get rid of them in November and the rotten MSM will follow into the tar pits of history.

Palin is a longtime Limbaugh listener (since before she became Governor). She isn’t taken by the media’s distortions.

Let’s see - The WHITE HOUSE CHIEF OF STAFF uses a vulgar term and they don’t seem to care that Palin calls on him to be fired

A TALK SHOW HOST makes fun of the white house chief of staff’s vulgar remarks and they scream about Palin NOT asking him to be fired...

What’s wrong with this picture? (RHETORICAL, i KNOW WHATS WRONG- THEY ARE LIBERALS)

I love EL Rushbo, but he always seems to take it one step too far.

We had Rahm on the ropes, and now the story is all Limbaugh. He knows they take his words out of context. That’s all they do.

Dumb move.

But he is on the same tape saying how they WILL take it all out of context BEFORE IT HAPPENED.

Lies by omission are lies too.

Because they gave up on reporting long ago, and now try to sell opinion as fact.

They try to advance an agenda through partisan propaganda.
