Whaler, activist ship collide again off Antarctica

SYDNEY – The anti-whaling ship the Bob Barker and a Japanese harpoon boat collided in the icy waters off Antarctica on Saturday — the second major clash this year in the increasingly aggressive confrontations between the two sides.

No one was reportedly injured in the latest strike. The U.S.-based activist group Sea Shepherd, which sends vessels to confront the Japanese fleet each year, said a small hole was torn in the hull of its ship, but it was above the water line and the vessel was not in danger of sinking.

This poster isn’t a big fan of whaling, but really.

The whalers should just outright ram and sink the weenies.

The “activists” are looking for a conflict. Give them one.

And remember, have your activists spayed or neutered.

If the Sea Shepard group is attacking other vessels on the high seas, they should be fired upon and sunk.

I think there's a need for international treaties on fishing, whaling, whatever. It would seem the Japanese are cheating on the treaty they signed. However...

The whalers should just outright ram and sink the weenies.

...that wouldn't break my heart.

“They named the boat the Bob Barker?”

I believe he donated the money for the boat.

Sea Shepherd is a paramilitary organization and their tactics amount to piracy. The guy who runs it, Paul Watson, is a dangerous nut with Khmer Rouge-like plans to restore the balance of nature. If the local powers don't deal with him, then the Japanese Navy should step in.

"The “activists” are looking for a conflict. Give them one."

If I were Captain of the Whaling vessel I would issue two LAWs to every crew member and post a general order that states anytime a ship rams us the first crewman to hit the offending vessel below the water line gets a 10 thousand dollar (or whatever such is in their home currency) bonus!

If the local powers don't deal with him

The counsel of penguins and seals should convene to discuss what action to take.

Do we have a video of this ramming? The last one was freakin hillarious.

The Japanese ought to ram as many of these as possible, film it all, then turn it into one of those zany game shows they do over there.

Count me on the side of the whales. The Japanese piloting these ships are poachers, and the fact they use science as a shield for their poaching pisses me off even more.

You’re right. I’m not a big fan of whaling either. Regardless... These “activists” are acting more like pirates. They are firing lasers and arrows at the Japanese ships, ramming them, and otherwise generally endangering the crews. This is more like piracy than advocacy. I say when the Japanese are fired upon or rammed, they should fire back to protect their crew and vessel. Their objective should be at a minimum to disable the activist’s vessel, preferably sink it to prevent any further attacks.

Silly me, just because the article said "off Antarctica," I thought it actually occurred off Antarctica.
I see now that it was an AP report, so it may have have been as you say Australia and New Zealand, or for that matter may never have happened at all.
