WASHINGTON – A blizzard battered the Mid-Atlantic region Saturday, with emergency crews struggling to keep pace with the heavy, wet snow that has piled up on roadways, toppled trees and left thousands without electricity.

Officials urged people to huddle at home and out of the way of emergency crews. Forecasters said the storm could be the biggest for the nation's capital in modern history.

A record 2 1/2 feet or more was predicted for Washington. As of early Saturday, 10 inches of snow was reported at the White House, while parts of Maryland and West Virginia were buried under more than 20 inches. Forecasters expected snowfall rates to increase, up to 2 inches per hour through Saturday morning.

Blizzard warnings were issued for the District of Columbia, Baltimore, parts of New Jersey and Delaware, and some areas west of the Chesapeake Bay.

yeah they lifted the storm warnings etc here too, according to WTOP:

Low pressure that brought heavy snow to the region has now moved out of the area and all warnings have been canceled. High pressure will bring improving conditions overnight with gradual clearing and cold temperatures. Nighttime lows will be in the single digits to middle teens. Partly sunny conditions greet us Sunday with below average temperatures for this time of year. Increased clouds will bring a mix of rain and snow Tuesday possibly changing to all snow by evening. 29 inches and still counting here in Waldorf... we continue to be under a Blizzard Warning in Southern Maryland. The Vancouver Winter Olympics venues have NOTHING on us!

Many years ago, I was a linesman in the AHL. The invitation tryout camp was at the Hershey Park Arena. Had never been there before. One of the great long weekends of my life. Made the cut and worked games in Baltimore, Richmond, Hampton and Norfolk.

What a time. Have fun.

if only the Congress could have been in the middle of a public debate on AGW and “cap-and-trade” just as the storm arrived

Isn’t today Ronald Reagan’s birthday? Maybe he’s feeling mischievous in Heaven and decided to create a little global warming in D.C.

wow, amazing photos, thank you

considering the conditions our soldiers and Marines fought in around the Chosin Reservoir, rather appropriate for the Korean War Memorial

This Global Warming is very cold.

This has been the coldest winter I can remember.

But the mainstream Marxist/liberal media tells us we have to destroy our economy and private industry(capitalism) to “save” the planet from global warming. And idiots everywhere are “conserving” energy(going green) to save the planet from global warming that isn't occurring.
