WASHINGTON – A blizzard battered the Mid-Atlantic region Saturday, with emergency crews struggling to keep pace with the heavy, wet snow that has piled up on roadways, toppled trees and left thousands without electricity.

Officials urged people to huddle at home and out of the way of emergency crews. Forecasters said the storm could be the biggest for the nation's capital in modern history.

A record 2 1/2 feet or more was predicted for Washington. As of early Saturday, 10 inches of snow was reported at the White House, while parts of Maryland and West Virginia were buried under more than 20 inches. Forecasters expected snowfall rates to increase, up to 2 inches per hour through Saturday morning.

Blizzard warnings were issued for the District of Columbia, Baltimore, parts of New Jersey and Delaware, and some areas west of the Chesapeake Bay.

Surprised algore isn’t scheduled to speak at a conference on global warming in DC. This is the kind of weather that usually follows him around. LOL.

That system started out as rain here in Tx. Wish we would have gotten some of the white as well-—not that it sticks around for very long here in N. Tx. but the little we get here in winter is welcome—IMO.

God definitely has a sense of humor. This kind of weather always seems to hit when algore is giving one of his “the end is near, so pay billions more in taxes or carbon credits!” speeches, or the global warming crowd is holding its latest boondoggle summit somewhere.

To our Mid-Atlantic FRiends - stay safe and warm.

The snow is a lot drier now since the air is colder, so what is coming down now will readily drift in these winds.

I’m not even going to bother starting to shovel now, it will just drift over again.

What is the Government doing for these poor people, huh? Who was in charge of preparedness? Where do they go to get their free housing and meal tickets for a year or two?

Only about 8-10 inches so far here in North/Central WV at 1500’. Higher elevations got a lot more. Hope we don’t get much more, I’ve got a 70 mile round trip tomorrow to pick up some live lobsters for our Super Bowl dinner.

You’re right!! Why in the world hasn’t FEMA mobilized? Why haven’t the debit cards been distributed? Doesn’t Obama care about people?

We reside in the FFX County, Mt. Vernon area of N.VA. We have about 18” and still snowing. We lost our power in the middle of the night for 6 hours and now it is back on! Kudos to Dominion Power.

Watching the morons on TV who are outside in this weather and have no business being outside, unless you are essential/emergency personnel. These non-essential morons are just making the situation worse. STAY INSIDE.

Pat Collins of News Channel 4 interviewed an individual who walked 3 miles in this horrendous storm just to cash in on a coupon for a free sandwhich at a Giant on Connecticut Ave, NW. She got lost twice on the way home. What an idiot. When did common sense leave our society!!! STOOOOPID people.

Year in and year out, the Great Plains states suffer extreme blizzards, and they take it in stride and dig themselves out. The railroad runs rotaries through ten and fifteen foot deep drifts. People prepare and go without power for weeks.

But just let it snow in DC and NYC, and it is monumental news.

Remember TahRayZaa and 'Shove it!' ?

Time for a new hybrid party ..

Tired of the crap in DC?

Shovel It!

Panic-induced weather reporting is par for the course for MD media folks. This is the kind of weather they can usually only dream about it. It’ll keep ‘em going through the end of next week with reports of melt/refreeze, messy sidestreets, reminders to shovel in stages and dress in layers, etc. lol

Was there an anti-AGW protest in DC recently? Or did the Goracle show up?

This might be a bit off-topic, but suddenly I’m real glad that Scott Brown got sworn in on Thursday, just before the storm hit ... who knows how the Senate Dems might have tried to exploit this “weather crisis”.

Thanks again, Al Gore!

Wow, the 18 inch report at Philly airport was at 7am, and we’ve had a LOT more since then.

This could end up rivalling the 1996 storm with 30”.

Still snowing, with 14” on the ground here, northeast of Harrisburg, PA.

Scared the dickens out of my 15 year old Dalmation when he walked out the door to “do his business”!
