Jobs bill gets snowed under

Senate Democrats will miss their self-imposed deadline for bringing a jobs bill to the floor Monday, and they’re hoping that the weekend’s epic snowstorm will give them some cover.

Senate votes scheduled for Monday evening have been pushed back to Tuesday on account of the storm, but it seems unlikely that Democrats would have been ready to proceed Monday, anyway.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said last week that he believed “very emphatically” that the Senate would hold a vote on the first of a series of jobs bills Monday.

But there was no agreement on a bill late Sunday afternoon, and aides to senators involved in the discussions cautioned against expecting much progress by Monday.

Although both parties say Washington should be focused on jobs — January’s unemployment rate came in Friday at 9.7 percent — Democrats can’t move a bill without 60 votes, and they control only 59

The democrat party has not the slightest clue how to create a private sector job, even if they wanted to.

The Democrats and the state-controlled media are now trotting out excuses. They have these huge majorities but they can't govern. They deserve to be relegated back to the minority in November!

Correct.

What the hell is a "Jobs Bill?"

A "Jobs Bill" could be a one line sentence to eliminate corporate taxes and regulations that stifle free enterprise.

If the friggin government got the hell out of the private sector, the economy would boom.

I just love how these politicians believe they can ‘wish’ jobs into existence by spending confiscated money.

Let’s hope Reid keeps bragging about being positive on passing tax & speed bills on specific dates — so G-d can continue sending wake up calls :)

The only jobs in the jobs bill is in the title of the bill.

In reality, it is a redistribution of wealth bill.

I first read this as "a series of job kills Monday". It's kind of like one of those things where some of us can see the truth where others can't.

Agreed.....
Jobs Bill......
1. Cut/slash taxes.
2. Furlough half of useless government departments and their employees.
3. Get rid of oppressive regulations.
4. Did I say cut taxes?

So simple
Soon enough we will all not have enough wealth to be stolen from us. Then tides will change.

Ok, a year ago they spent $787 billion promising us unemployment would not go over 8%, it went to 10.2.

Why in the world should we trust them with MORE money, to do the same thing, when they failed so dramatically the 1st time?

Article: "Although both parties say Washington should be focused on jobs — January’s unemployment rate came in Friday at 9.7 percent — Democrats can’t move a bill without 60 votes, and they control only 59..."

FormerACLUmember: "The democrat party has not the slightest clue how to create a private sector job, even if they wanted to."

This is even more clear if you look at the statistics on the UR:

"The SGS Alternate Unemployment Rate reflects current unemployment reporting methodology adjusted for SGS-estimated long-term discouraged workers, who were defined out of official existence in 1994. That estimate is added to the BLS estimate of U-6 unemployment, which includes short-term discouraged workers."

The dirty secret about these "Stimulus" plans are they aren't even stimulative under the failed notions of Keynesian economic theory.

All these jobs bills do is shell out money to state and local governments to paper over existing debt. They throw in some "tax credit" propaganda gimmicks to give themselves political cover but the bulk of this money will just be more money shelled out to Democrats activists groups.

All the Democrat Congress is doing is paying the Democrat party's Visa bill with the Taxpayers Master card.

Almost all of this t"Jobs" money will be spent on, yet again, bailing out the debt for state and local governments. Very little of this will actually creates job, mostly it will merely papered over existing debt.

Once this "jobs" money runs out, State and Local Governments will still have to make the tough decisions on how to close those budget holes. They are just delaying, not fixing, the problem.
