Between 6:30-9:45 Super Bowl XLIV averaged a 46.4/68 (household rating/share) in preliminary Nielsen numbers. If it holds up in the finals we will see new records. This is better than last year’s 42.1/65 by 10 percent.
Unfortunately it’s not possible to accurately predict the number of average viewers based on preliminary household rating, but given the general trend of the numbers, it looks like last year’s viewing record of 98.7 million average viewers will be shattered, and 100 million for the New Orleans Saints vs. Indianapolis Colts certainly looks possible.
In the 9:30p-9:45pm portion of the game almost 51 percent of the households in the USA were tuned to the game, and of people who were watching television at that time, 71 percent were watching the Super Bowl.

The PR battle was won before the game even started and prior to the ad being shown.
The ad itself was innocuous and benign, but because of all the pre-game hype, it scored a major victory for the pro-life cause.
Except for the NYG takedown of Bill Belacheats Pats, this was the best game I have ever watched.

That was amazing! I never realized how throwing a football takes such accuracy. I also did not realize how much aim was involved. Thank you for sharing that. I was mezmerized watching this video and how interesting it was.
Nope, I didn’t watch this years handpicked participants of the Stupid Bowl. And, as long as the NFL keeps deciding who the participants are going to be, I will continue to boycott.
I know. I’ve watched that video a bunch of times. It still amazes me. They’ve got one where they measure the force of being tackled by Ray Lewis. Scary!

CNN - three shot during celebration in New Orleans. Heh, sounds like a disgruntled Colts fan. (Though three shot in a night is not a bad night there at times.)
No football fan here. Wasn’t interested , did a crossword puzzle. Never could understand the identification with sports teams. I’m just glad it’s over and maybe there can be tv news, weather etc without football mentioned every 2 seconds.

I am under the impression that, for better or for worse, the Saints’ Super Bowl victory will be a constant topic of discussion in the local media for a long time to come. Think of it as an antidote of sorts to the ongoing discussion of hurricane Katrina after almost 5 years.
