Billion dollar nightmare looms as Obama refuses to rule out holding 9/11 terror trials in NYC

The feds may still try the 9/11 terror thugs near Ground Zero, President Obama said yesterday, shocking critics.

"I have not ruled it out, but I think it's important for us to take into account the practical, logistical issues involved," Obama told CBS News anchor Katie Couric.

"I mean, if you have a city that is saying no, and a police department that is saying no, and a mayor that is saying no, that makes it difficult," Obama acknowledged.

The White House asked Attorney General Eric Holder late last month to look for alternatives to a trial in Manhattan Federal Court.

Local opposition stiffened as it became clear the trial could be a billion-dollar nightmare - and it galvanized again in reaction to Obama's new comments.

"Based on the security, logistical and cost concerns raised by the mayor and the police commissioner, it is not feasible to have the trials in New York. The administration should realize that and move on," said Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.).

The whole country thinks this is nuts...not just New Yorkers.

Does Obama think that 9-11 only effected New Yorkers?? And that this trial will do the same??

He's just plain stupid.

KSM was never tried in military court. He confessed, but he was not tried.

He truly has a political death-wish.

Or he knows something we don't.

Or thinks he does.

“..if you have a city that is saying no, and a police department that is saying no, and a mayor that is saying no, that makes it difficult”

Well, he could always BUZZ THEM AGAIN WITH AIR FORCE ONE to show them who’s the decider!

KSM was never tried in military court. He confessed, but he was not tried.

He should get the same swift treatment that Timothy McVeigh got!

I’d truly like to see the comparison in costs and security between having the trials in New York or Gitmo. How much does a military officer make? The government should also supply an attorney to these guys at the same salary as the military. Keep it simple, get it over with. Who cares what the terrorists think?

Since this won’t be a war crimes trial, I guess only the US is guilty of war crimes in the modern world.

His attitude of everyone saying no (just look at health care reform), is that we just do not understand the complexities of the situation, and how it will benefit the real people. He will probably have to go to NYC and have some personal meetings with the mayor, the police, and some massive public relations messages to “the people” so that we all can understand the benefit of having the trial in NYC. He is such a loser.

O’Reilly talked about this in the past couple of weeks. Said it could be done at GITMO for about $39.99 a day (for fresh coffee and bagels each day). He was joking of course, but the point was the cost at GITMO would be minimal. And it would not become a circus act for all the media to distort to their liking.
