WASHINGTON (AP) - By now, it is abundantly clear that Michelle Obama loves french fries.
The first lady talks about this "guilty pleasure" all the time, trying to ward off any notion that she is a nutrition nanny even as she cajoles Americans to eat better.
Now, her conversation with the public about the nation's health and fitness is about to get a lot more pointed.
After laying the groundwork for nearly a year, she launches a campaign on Tuesday against childhood obesity that she hopes will change the way millions of Americans eat, exercise, look and feel.

The first lady has prepared for the obesity campaign by falling asleep over briefing papers, consulting with legislators, Cabinet members and policy experts, and speaking about the challenges that overstressed parents face in doing right by their children. And, famously, by hula hooping on the South Lawn to promote the need to get kids moving.
She says she spent the past year figuring out how to talk about all of this "in a way that doesn't make already overstressed, anxious parents feel even more guilty about a very hard thing." That's where the french fries come in, part of the first lady's message that nobody's perfect and that there's plenty of wiggle room in a healthy diet.

Just surprised that AP wasn’t singing her health-conscious and maternal praises. It mentions that she fell asleep over briefing papers?......was that to indicate how late she worked, or her feigned interest in the program?
I wonder if MO weight falls within the “healthy” limits?
She looks beautiful made up but seeing her get off Air Force One over the summer made me think....WOW she could lose a few pounds and dress like a First Lady.

My grandson is 9 lives in Glasgow, KY when he started school this year the lunch room people let him have a EXTRA sandwich, for which his parents had to pay for as they pay for his lunch, he gained 10 lbs in 3 months bringing his weight up to 98 lbs.
They had him on a controled diet per doctors orders not to gain weight and were keeping his weight gain to his growth 2-3 lbs per year, he's tall for his age, but 25 lbs over weight.
Son raised Cain...the extra sandwich stopped....but he was told the kids can have as much as they want when they want it and the parents have to pony up the money, even if they don't have the extra money.
I told them if it happens again to bring child abuse charges against the school as the weight gain is harmful to Matt's health. And to get a doctors letter to reinforce the parents orders.

Absolutely. I do miss good manners, poise, dignity, and grace in the Whitehouse. It needs to be fumigated after these cretins are given the boot in 2012.
People tend to fall asleep when working if they consume too many carbohydrates....also, has she been checked for sleep apnea? As obese as she is, under the new BMI ratings (she'd probably only be fat under old guidelines)she is the perfect candidate for that syndrome.
