In support of an agency ...the reason

The 'Department of Energy' Was instituted on 8-04-1977 TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL.

AND NOW IT'S 2009, 32 YEARS LATER ...
AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS NECESSARY DEPARTMENT IS AT $24.2 BILLION A YEAR
IT HAS 16,000 FEDERAL EMPLOYEES
AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES
AND LOOK AT THE JOB IT HAS DONE!
THIS IS WHERE YOU SLAP YOUR FOREHEAD AND SAY 'WHAT WAS I THINKING?'
Ah, yes, good old bureaucracy...
And NOW_ we are going to turn The Banking System, Health Care & The Auto Industry over to government ALL IN THE NAME OF CHANGE?

Actually, I DO remember the reason given. And it is even funnier than the one offered. The reason Jimmy Carter gave for having a Department of Energy was that “we were the only developed nation that didn’t have one already.”

As bad as that is, it’s not as “funny” as what we may get under Hussein.
The real reason was those 16,000 federal employees. Union dues are automatically deducted from their salaries and the unions give all their political contributions to Democrats.
The Democrats like big government for two reasons: 1) Power and 2) the union dues and contributions.
You’re ignoring how much dependence was “saved”!

I yearn for the days when CHURCHES hired (primarily) women to be school teachers, and held classes ON THE CHURCH GROUNDS.
There was LOCAL CONTROL; LOCAL ACCOUNTABILITY.
If the teacher did something inappropriate, they fired her. She got paid from the students going to the class.
I don’t see why the Dept. of Education was every instituted, frankly.
