Rep. Vern Ehlers, R-Mich., will announce his plans to retire at the end of this term tomorrow at a press conference, according to The Hotline:
A press release from Ehler's office says the presser "follow[s] speculation about his plans to continue serving" in the House. Several GOP sources tell Hotline OnCall his wife had a heart attack last week, further lending credence to speculation he will step aside.
Ehlers joins a growing list of retiring members of Congress, including 17 Republicans and 11 Democrats.

Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
I wish everyone in congress would follow his lead.

28 CONGRESSCRITTERS OUT! GOOD RIDDANCE! Is what I say.
Didn’t know the number was higher for Republicans though...
Michigan Ping
Ehlers is a RINO.
Well good in some ways, Ehlers was a RINO.
Ehlers voted with Democrats 50% of the time, he is a big government Global Warming believer. Against online gambling.
Goodbye RINO!
Ehlers is a nice guy, although a little liberal for my tastes. We could do much better and much worse.
I can't say that I favor online gambling either.
Problem is: How do you propose to block it?
I have no idea.
Therein lies the problem. Thanks to the internet and the availability of offshore servers, there's no way to outlaw on-line gambling.
We may not like it. But we'll have to adapt to it. The only alternative is the Chinese solution -- with all offshore internet communications passing through and being censored by government-owned servers.
Given the alternative, I'll take on-line gambling...
