If there was ever any doubt that Sarah Palin is a fool, she has removed it.
Once the governor of Alaska and a vice presidential candidate, Palin has left the confines of public office for the more sympathetic offices of Fox News.
She has also been acting as something of a de facto leader of the Tea Party movement.
Unfortunately, her new roles have not lent her the gravitas she was lacking as a politician.
...
Palin has consistently shown herself to be thoughtless, uninformed, impulsive and opportunistic. If these are the qualities people look for in a leader, then this country has bigger troubles than the economy or war.
Palin hasn't ruled out a run for president in 2012. If conservatives truly want to end Obama's reign, we suggest that she is the wrong opponent to match against him.

I wrote back to the opinion page editor with a rebuttal, and he asked me to consider making a column out of it (normally, we are confined to writing about local issues, but he figures there's a lot of local interest based on the comments and the calls he has received).
I'm not sure I want to, but I thought I'd get some responses here. I'll post my e-mail response to the editor below, a little later (I don't have access to it now, plus I want to see comments from others who might be more supported of Sarah Palin than I am).
I would appreciate if people would read the rest of the editorial. I can't post it all because of copyright. In the missing section, the editors discuss the "retarded" comments with Rahm and Rush, and her writing on her hand.
Sarah Palin is like a rorschach test; people seem to see what they want to see, and form harsh opinions one way or another.
For me, the hardest part of addressing this is the "retarded" bit. It is clear she really finds it offensive, while I don't like us going PC. But then she didn't react that way with Rush, instead going the route of "what was meant" rather than just saying the use of the word was offensive (which she did say through her spokesperson earlier).
And it seemed to me Rush really was mocking not just Rahm, but all those (mostly on the left) who go crazy over the use of a word to properly describe someone.
So I think I need help understanding that from some other perspectives. I disagree but can understand Palin saying that calling liberal senators 'retards' or "retarded' is bad (even though retarded seems like an excellent description of their actions). I could also understand Palin saying Rush was hilarious and that the liberals were "kooks" so that was great for Rush to make fun of "retarded".
But I can't reconcile the two; the editors argue she is gutless for not going after Rush, which I disagree with, but think the alternatives aren't much better.
Anyway, I look forward to reading how others would respond (also, anybody who wants to register and leave comments in the local paper, I encourage it if you are civil about it, there is a group of 4-6 liberals who seem to spend all their time commenting on articles.
Hey, if you do that, you can also go mock me in the comments of my columns. This week I was supporting abstinence-only education.
Over-use of the word “I” in your writings.
I would comment but its so stupid I try avoid arguments with idiots
It wastes your time and annoys the idiot
Keep trying. Palin is where she is because of her accomplishments. She has FAR more experience than the Obamaloon or any sub-SAT scoring reporter, and is far smarter.
Sorry, MSM idiots, ain’t buying your “she’s stupid” approach.
In any case, what does stupid have to do with the presidency?
Heck, we’ve got the Obamaloon there now. And he defines stupid.
For a woman called a fool, they sure are in paranoid fear of her.
There is no need to respond to every incondite article published in every two-bit rag by people who think what they do is actual work.
As you may have noticed; there are FReepers who write accurate, cogent, perceptive logic without breaking a sweat.
Idiots who group together as *The Editors* and concoct contorted, hateful nonsense should perhaps write books for a younger audience -kindergarten comes to mind.
For starters, Rahm Emmanuel is an important official of the WHITE HOUSE, appointed by POTUS, who WORKS FOR US, the taxpayers. He's not a satirist or a comic (Some guy after Jon Stewart, who is a nasty little potty-mouth himself, went on a F&^%ing Retard rampage, but he's on a comedy show. Those guys are often obscene--but they dont work for us and they don't work for you and me.
Some group for the disabled asked Sarah to speak to Rahm's outburst, and it worked beautifully, with Rahm humbling himself. That's what really made the critics mad...seeing one of their own humbled.
Refuse to go on the defensive. Always refuse to go on the defensive if you can possibly do so. The left has always had rules for others that they don't hold themselves to.
"Rahm isn't a comic or a satirist, in case you haven't noticed, you idiot, he's supposed to uphold the dignity of the US as if a jerk like yourself would know something like that.
I don't think we get very far by liking liberals. I don't think most conservatives understand just how dark and hateful are liberals' feelings toward us...and, really, just about everyone! They emanate antagonism.

“Palin has consistently shown herself to be thoughtless, uninformed, impulsive and opportunistic”....
HA! HA!.....She’s still better than that DILBERT DUMB BUTT DISASTER currently in the White House....
The editors should be forced to name one politician with gravitas.
Classic crap from the “Wishful Thinking” (or, more accurately, “Self-fulfilling Prophecy” or “Tell a big lie often enough...” leftistmedia....
Fear . . . I smell fear.
Lotta PDS out there, but notice . . .
Take ANY of those hate pieces and substitute the name Obama for Palin. They’re describing their own godd!
The editor is just making sure we all know there’s plenty of ASS in Manassas. What a retard.
Meanwhile, when that model of conservative thought Rush Limbaugh uses the word "retard," Palin falls all over herself to defend him.
Does your editorial page editor know how to read and/or use a television or radio? Rahm Emanuel did not use "the word 'retarded,'" he used the term "f*****g retarded." Rush used the word "retard" in discussing Rahm Emanuel's outburst.
This goofball of yours also excitedly drools, "Furthermore, despite criticism of Obama's use of a teleprompter, Palin wrote crib notes on her hand to help her through her appearance at a recent Tea Party convention. Add hypocrisy onto her list of leadership qualifications." It is completely ludicrous to compare a speaker who needs a teleprompter and a script to converse even with small groups, to a speaker who has a few lines written on her palm to avoid forgetting important parts of a major address.
As a longtime journalist myself, I have to wonder how you could possibly work for such an over-the-top reactionary moonbat.
all this proves is that Manassas, Virginia has been fully and completely sucked into the inside-the-beltway alternate universe
HEY, you can nominate anyone, a rapist, a proven liar, a cocaine sniffer etc. as long as he is a RAT, don’t need no stenkin qualifcations, remember?
I wanted to emphasize that I was posting this for my own benefit, and explain why I was doing so.
Two words: Navy Corpseman. Perhaps Obama should write a dictionary on his palm.
They can’t distinguish between a high official of the Obama administration using a derogative to describe a group of people as opposed to a radio commentator making fun of said official by saying the same thing he did. They’ve convinced themselves that Rush leads the Republican Party.
Since the author of this POS is obviously a Leftist, it means she is exactly the candidate conservatives should choose. They are scared sh!tless of her!!
We’ll see what these people have to say when every candidate palin endorses wins in the 2010 elections.
I agree, and wouldn’t have bothered, except that he did ask. Also, this guy isn’t an idiot, and I was pretty surprised at this editorial, and told him so, and that’s what started this.
No, there’s no need, but since I was asked if I would write a response column, I thought I should at least consider it.
Thanks. Is it OK with you if I steal a line or two from this if I write my column? I’ve tried to make that argument but I think I like some of your wording better.
"...For a woman called a fool, they sure are in paranoid fear of her..."
You are precisely 100% correct. That is why Americans laugh at the mainstream media.
Moonbat journalists can't write a straight thought about Governor Palin without falling all over themselves.
Their screeching opinions often oppose each other...even in the same article!
It's situations like this that call to mind the eight stupid bastards that fired Rush Limbaugh.
She can answer a question off the cuff without having to scroll back through her speech to reiterate the talking point. It is nice to see someone who has the ability to speak from the heart and mean it.
About “retard” and Rush, Palin says she listens to him. That means she gets him. Your editors don’t.
I have had many letters published and frequently comment on the paper's website. I feel that it is my responsibility to try and counter the crap printed in my local paper. The irritating part is that even when one is confronted with outrageous nonsense one still has to remember that the editors hold all the cards. If you said everything you really wanted to... they will not publish it and they will often delete even your comments from the web page. At times it still feels good to let them know how you really feel, unfortunately you can only tell them you are canceling your subscription so many times before they figure that one out.
(((PING)))
“work for” is really a misnomer in the field of free-lance opinion columns. In 2004, the paper dropped a conservative writer and another one quit, and a friend of mine wrote to the staff and suggested they consider me as a replacement (I wasn’t writing editorials then, but I was active on an e-mail group where we discussed politics and local issues).
So now I send them a column, and get paid a pittance for it. And I get to say I’m a writer. My qualifications were that I can write complete sentences, and live locally.
The current editor isn’t the guy who first accepted me, he’s a young guy on the liberal/libertarian side of things, who usually does a better job of explaining and supporting his positions, even when he is dead wrong.
But I don’t really work for him, I just get a chance to put something conservative in the paper once a week and get lunch money for it. It’s a good gig, so long as I don’t think about how long it takes to actually write the column.
The key to making real money in opinion writing is to get syndicated, so you can get paid 100 times for the same column. That’s not going to happen for me.
The editorial certainly qualifies as “opinion”, being totally fact-free.
This and a perusal of today’s Houston Chronicle while at the doctor’s office remind me that most “newspapers” are not fit for toilet paper, let alone reading.
I disagree. "Stupid" should hurt. And it's our duty to "bring on the pain."
It wasn't really harsh, it was just juvenile. They need to pay some attention to the news before they try to reference it, the Limbaugh mistake they made was inexcusably ignorant and comparing the most bizarre and constant use of teleprompters that we have ever seen to someone inking six words on there palm, or even having a stack of index cards to refer to, is just juvenile.
Shouldn't something this trivial be in chat?
One thing I deeply respect about my wife is her insistence on using her "palm pilot" as she calls it. I've tried to buy her the gadgets, but she insists her way is "good enough," and those that don't like it can go to hell.
Pretty good for a doddering, old fool. Sarah will do it too.
They said Reagan was stupid too, they do that when they’re really frightened of them.
Mamzelle does a good job. I think I would point out that “intelligent people understand that there is a difference between a high ranking federal official using that word as an insult and a radio political commentator using the word to show how the official stepped in it by using it. Sarah appropriately expressed her displeasure with Rush’s use of the word by conveying through her spokesperson that ‘Governor Palin believes crude and demeaning name calling at the expense of others is disrespectful.’ which simultaneously demonstrates that Sarah is NOT a hypocrite, but is also a thinking person who understands that the word was used differently. What IS hypocritical, is that the media keeps berating Sarah though she responded appropriately but has yet to ask the Democrat officials Emmanuel was insulting how THEY feel about being so insulted. Or do both the media AND the insulted Democrats agree with his assessment?”
Feel free to use that any way you wish.
Great post, Mamzelle.
The above focus is just about as petty as is comes in today's State Owned Media. It is something you would find in a high school newspaper when the teacher/advisor was letting the kids have free reign.
This editorial written by the editors of the Menassas News and Messenger writes the following sentence:
"Palin has consistently shown herself to be thoughtless, uninformed, impulsive and opportunistic."
To make such a charge requires something of substance to justify these charges. There is nothing. It is all gibberish without substantiation. They could just as well said that Sarah Palin is an alien visitor from the Mothership parked behind the Hale-Bopp comet. In that case, they need to travel over to the Santa Monica Pier and get a in person interview when she decides to pay another visit (sarc). They should remember to wear their Nike tennis shoes and bring $5.75 to call home. If they want to save themselves the trouble, however, they could quit their pot habit.
For sure. This clown is gonna have a coronary and die clutching the NYT with the headline, “President Palin.”
What I find laughable is that, after 13 months of 0bamination, libs chide Palin on the "gravitas" and experience issues. Pray tell, what is the level of "gravitas" of the "president" who:
1. Regularly targets private citizens for ridicule,
2. Can't understand why the public rejects his attempts to nationalize 1/6th of the nation's economy, and
3. Fails to grasp that islamist-run countries will attack us, REGARDLESS of who's sitting in the White House, and
4. Can't effectively string a complete sentence together without the presence of his beloved TOTUS?
Rush has made a career of taking liberals own words, motives and actions, and throwing them back in their face. Those who listen to Rush 'get' this. Those, however, who do not listen to Rush on a regular basis, can not grasp this concept. Case and point: The McNabb/ESPN problem. Liberals, especially, knee jerk everything Rush says and blow it out of proportion.
Now, one could argue that Sarah Palin's reaction to Rahm's remarks is the same. The difference, however, is this: Rahm used the term 'retarded' in a strictly malicious way. Rush used it to point out the glaring hypocrisy of the left, and their PCs cries. IOW, anyone on the right can not say this or that, but its ok if the left does it because 'we don't really mean it'.
This isn't about Sarah Palin not being equitable in her condemnation. Its more about the left getting caught and deflecting the truth.
The very specific thing about Sarah Palin RIGHT NOW, and going forward is that there is a vast new “swing” constituency out there that is both “looking for” a leader, and wanting seriously not to be put once again into a position where they are “claimed” by a leader appointed by someone else. They’re in a kind of emotional limbo, and, for the time being, Palin still fills that need to be lifted from this limbo: how viable Palin will be depends entirely on her,not them, and I think the first chinks in the armor are beginning to show. What’s happened so far is that the more she’s attacked, the more her fans love her, thereby pushing her into an overconfidence that may wind up being her downfall—unless she develops her own “thesis”, she’s going to be very vulnerable in a way that, on the other side of things, Obama himself has proven to be.
Obama , and the total disenchantment with HIM, could ironically redound onto Palin, going forward: the electorate could think “we’re not going to waste another election cycle on someone so untested, even if SOMEONE ELSE finds her captivating and charismatic.”
Palin herself still seems tentative about “running for President”, but not ruling it out, because she’s still unsure about herself and her ability to cope with the inevitable media manhandling A THOUSAND TIMES what she got as McCain’s veep choice.
Palin is looking good, and better day by day, for people that want her to look that way, because they’re still looking for ‘leaders’ and unwilling to exercise their own
grassroots prerogatives-—stuff like this “retarded” flap only make the process worse: Palin looks, at first blush, as PC as any idiot Lib, and the issue itself gets confused, sputters, and dies away. Her acolytes lap it up, because it’s her going up against the big boys and calling them on their ‘hypocrisy’, and even calling for them to be fired.
Hell, if it was me, I think the point could’ve been made better by saying “Rahm Emanuel is a f***in’ retard”, which in effect is what Limbaugh said.
We could get to a point with this word where we couldn’t utter a sentence like “the process of getting this bill passed has been retarded by a recalcitrant Congress”, thereby putting us back in the N-word/’niggardly’ controversy of a few years ago. Needless to say, this is NOT the road to travel, but we travel it because we still don’t have anything substantive to talk about.
A female caller to Beck this morning made a very good case
against Palin by pointing out how little original material comes out of her, using as a case in point the speech at the Nashville Convention:
I heard only bits and pieces of the speech, but I can imagine that, yes indeed, almost ALL of it fell back on a recitation of the usual time-honored Conservative talking points. We are already at a point where this is simply NOT ENOUGH. THe caller went on to limn a strategy that was unformed but brilliant, and flows right into things I am trying to develop about how ‘the outreach’ MUST go beyond the usual partisan displays of “we must have THIS, rather than THAT”, etc. etc.
Only by figuring out new ways to look at this wasteful short-circuiting of US/THEM is this country going to get back on track with the kind of representation in Washington
that will return to us what has been taken away.
I’m sure the RNC is getting extremely overconfident by now,and is just itching to float a flotilla of their own candidates out there, ready-made for this vast new constituency of Indies, Conservatives,RINOS, and even disillusioned Democrats, (the last two of which may be the only audience they succeed in getting),
but they’ve got their own obstacles to overcome.
For one thing, they’ve NOT been getting the usual routine contributions they’ve been counting on getting for many years, and that tends to put a crimp in their influence
and mobility.
There’s too much going on out there that’s being tried FOR THE FIRST TIME, that is NOT going to be swallowed up by the hegemony of either party. THere’s an amorphous constituency that needs to be addressed and shown that there are ways of
“doing politics” that are very different from what we’re used to. It’s those strategies that have to be tried NOW, and the only way to do it is by the trial and error of DOING IT, and learning from that.
It’s an exciting time to be alive.
Looks like these people, whoever they are, just figured out how to get people to read their columns and visit their website, smear Sarah Palin and you’re sure to get some hits. Assholes.
Funny how the MSM media slams the “incompetent Palin”. If she was such a non-entity, why are they so concerned about her and treating her as public enemy #1? Go Sarah go!! They did the same to Reagan.
