Poll: 71% say Palin's unqualified to be president By Eric Zimmermann - 02/11/10 11:45 AM ET

Almost three quarters of Americans, including half of Republicans, think Sarah Palin is not qualified to serve as president, according to a new Washington Post/ABC poll.

The poll also found Palin's approval rating at a new low, with just 37% holding a favorable opinion of her. Meanwhile, 55% of respondents have an unfavorable opinion of the former Alaska Governor.

A full 71% of respodnents, including 51% of Republcians, say Palin is not ready to occupy the White House. Palin has said it would be "absurd not to consider" a 2012 bid against President Obama.

Exactly two-thirds of independents say Palin's not qualified, along with an overhwelming 91% of Democrats.

Meanwhile, the Tea Party movement receives tepid approval from the public. 35% have a favorable view of the movement, with 40% holding an unfavorable view. A slim plurality, 45%-36%, say they agree at least somewhat with the Tea Party's positions.

METHODOLOGY – This ABC News/Washington Post poll was conducted by telephone Feb. 4- 8, 2010, among a random national sample of 1,004 adults, including landline and cell-phoneonly respondents. Results for the full sample have a 3.5-point error margin. Click here for a detailed description of sampling error. Sampling, data collection and tabulation by TNS of Horsham, PA.

I have never felt that a random sampling of 1000 people can adequately rise above the level of statistical noise.

The MSM just might have been successful. IF, and that is a big IF, they convince 50% of the voters that she is another Quayle, there is no way she will win an election.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Dan Quayle laid down and accepted his fate. Sarah Palin will not. She is instead, using the media exposure to her advantage. Take the “hand-writing” as an example. It was no secret that she wrote on her hands. She mentioned it in her book. She is not ashamed of it. She has no pretensions of elitism. She is using it to show that she is not showing you an image of her, carefully prepared for mass consumption, but rather the way she really is.

The media didn’t argue much about what she said, just about who she was, a silly woman who writes on her hand. They took the bait. The key points she was trying to convey have now been printed in every paper. They populate every left wing blog. The President’s press secretary reacted lamely to her. Attention will now be focused on her more than ever.

This is not a person who wears her University degree on her sleeve. She actually uses what she learned in those media classes to her advantage.

This is a politically meaningless poll. That it's being used for a political hit job tells you all you need to know about the WAPO and ABC News. It's also tells you all you need to know about the Palin haters who come out on every thread mentioning Palin...even those with the disclaimer, "This thread is for Palin supporters only."

It appears she has stalkers...and you know who you are.

Now, as to the poll...in regards to politics, a poll of adults is meaningless. More meaningful is a poll of registered voters. Most meaningful of all is a poll of likely voters.

Surely posters on FR are more sophisticated and savvy to not fall for this? We have this discussion every election cycle!!!

At this point in the election cycle, the only engaged people are likely voters.

Do they expect we are falling for this stuff?

Evidently some do. FR needs to require all internals posted as policy. No internals, then no posting. These polls are for perception shaping. Nothing scientific except an insidious attempt at manipulating public perception.

IMO it’s all going to boil down to debate performance. If she blows away her Repub competitors in the primaries and then Obozo, she can wipe out the “quitter” meme. The bar is not set high for her, so a good performance would be seen as a blow-out. I’d say she’s sittin’ pretty.

Where were polls like this during the run-up to Barry's bid?

Oh, that's right. Silly me.

This is a good example of why pols conduct their polls.

These rigged polls are just another part of the 24/7 Sarah bashing conducted to drive her out of contention and/or to influence the easily influenced that if they want to stay ‘trendy’ they better not vote for Sarah.

She did what she did. Get over it. (resignation).

_____________________________

It's not for me to get over. She will face this question...

Mrs. Palin, we know what it took to get you to quit as governor, what would it take to get you to quit as President?

There is no answer good enough to get 70 million Americans to vote for her.

After review of the thread...I’d have to say that there are a few who fall for it...or they have other dogs in the fight...

As much as I liked W, there were times he was less than up to snuff (and I’m certain his mother and I would be very close on our assessments thereof). Mrs. B is my sainted heroine and will ever be thus. She is my kind of lady, and I don’t EVER recall her making me cringe. W is her baby, as P is mine, but there are times P makes me wish I’d covered a few things better. If that makes her mad, then so be it, but I doubt it.

She was “class” all the way through. She kept her more colorful moments to herself and expected those around her to do likewise. She’s my “steel magnolia” personified and a very genuine person.

If conservatives had the numbers to win without the independant vote then we'd be in power.

The independants run the show, like it or not. While they will vote the right (MA, NJ, VA) the missing and telling factor was Palin. Would they have supported Brown if she had campaigned for him. It seems that Brown and/or Palin thought not. That speaks volumes to many of us regarding her national, across the board electability.

When Michael Savage turned on Palin and said she wasn’t qualified to be President, that was the end of it for me. That’s all she wrote.

Tim Pawlenty or Scott Brown for President.

I think it’s a done deal.

The fringe media has been transparent for a good solid year. Look at the complete lack of coverage of the tea parties and town halls last summer.

It is for all the marbles now. The communist lefties like Boxer, Read and the rest of the Democrats, and their media minions dropped any pretense of impartiality a solid year ago.

Anybody with eyes can see this. The only people who can’t see this are the wilfully blind or wilfully ignorant.

Here’s a clue Joe....a fact is not discredited just because you don’t like it. You will learn that over time, probably.
