Jersey City Deputy Mayor Leona Beldini was found guilty Thursday of two of six counts in a scheme to extort bribes from a government informant posing as a developer seeking favorable action on high-rise condominium project.
The jury returned its split verdict shortly after 4 p.m. on the second day of deliberations in U.S. District Court in Newark.
Beldini, 74, was acquitted of the most serious charges of conspiracy to commit extortion and two counts of attempted extortion.
The jury found her guilty of two counts of receiving bribes from Solomon Dwek, the convicted swindler behind the largest FBI corruption sting in New Jersey.
In all fairness, I think they did pick up a Republican or two as well...
Nice to see we’re getting the small rats but we must not forget the big rats that are doing more damage on a bigger scale.
Yes, there is a lot about my state that is very nice. 127 miles of beautiful beaches, beautiful parks and countryside, Revolutionary War history abounds here as well as many famous Americans having been born here and I don’t just mean Bruce Springsteen. For instance Admiral William F. “Bull. Halsey( b. Elizabeth, NJ).
White.
*ping*
When my grandfather was a lad living on Wayne Street, Mayor Frank Hague and the local Dems used to hire actual street gangs to get out the vote and pay visits to challengers in the primary. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.
Huh ? Dude, did you forget Bret Schundler ?
2. Only one person on that STUPID (only a retard would watch it) "Jersey Shore" show is actually FROM New Jersey. It takes place in Seaside Heights, which is popular with folks from Staten Island (where do you think those accents come from anyway), which is in NEW YORK.
I forgot Brett Schundler. Too much post-dinner Grappa tonight.
You'll encounter more "guidos" on Lawn Guyland, where I grew up, than anywhere in NJ (aside from a few select shore towns in the summer).
DUH, without your edification I would have never known.
Get a life! it was a joke!
Ha! That grappa will do that to you!
Those Shundler years where the years Chill-town got turned around and real estate and charter schools were built up without the graft.
And as for “Jersey Shore”, there were plenty of guidos from Lodi and environs down in Seaside during my prime time there. And occasionally those guidettes would cause controversy by getting into an inter-ethnic relationship with an Irish guy!
My mother always said it was ok as long as her family had Irish music at the wedding! lol!
