Poll Finds Edge for Obama Over G.O.P. Among the Public
New York Times ^ | February 11, 2010 | ADAM NAGOURNEY and MEGAN THEE-BRENAN

At a time of deepening political disaffection and intensified distress about the economy, President Obama enjoys an edge over Republicans in the battle for public support, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.

While the president is showing signs of vulnerability on his handling of the economy -- a majority say he has yet to offer a clear plan for creating jobs -- Americans blame former President George W. Bush, Wall Street and Congress much more than they do Mr. Obama for the nation’s economic problems and the budget deficit, the poll found.

They credit Mr. Obama more than Republicans with making an effort at bipartisanship, and they back the White House’s policies on a variety of disputed issues, from allowing gays to serve openly in the military to repealing the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy.

The poll suggests that both parties face a toxic environment as the prepare to face voters in November. Public disapproval of Congress is at an historically high level, and huge numbers of Americans think Congress is beholden to special interests. Fewer than one in ten Americans say members of Congress deserve reelection.

As the party in power, Democrats face a particular risk from any wave of voter discontent; unfavorable views of the Democratic party are as high as they have been since the Republican takeover of Congress in 1994, though Republicans continue to register an even worse showing on that measure. The percentage of Americans who approve of Mr. Obama’s job performance, at 46 percent, is as low as it has been since he took office.

Yeah, Obama is so popular that the Democrats can't hold a Senate seat in Massachusetts. His breaking -- again -- of the no-middle-class-tax-increase pledge will make him even more popular. Obama and his advisers would be arrogant fools to pretend that their policies are popular. Oh, wait.

I love how they found "John Smith, a Republican from Greenville, S.C." to criticize the Republicans. I'm sure Obama is especially popular with Republican men from the South right now.

All of which means the Times/SeeBS polls are garbage.

Whenever Obama needs a poll showing good news, he just calls up the New York Times and they manufacture one for him.

NY Times polls are basically worthless.

Whew...I’m relieved the NYT and their cronies found one poll to support their delusions, otherwise they may have been throwing themselves off the “edge” that 0 leads with. ;)

I simply do not believe the poll results... The NYT sponsoring or conducting an opinion poll without slanting the questions, skewing the demographics of those who are polled/

Get Real... SIMPLY NOT BELIEVABLE ...

The LEFT will do anything to further their position - fabricate opinion polls or just out and out lie — no difference to the Liberal-Leftist-Progressives.

For the Leftist Media - the ends justifies the means...

Hey NYT! It’s not an edge, it’s a statistical dead heat.

A majority of the voters already know that Obama is a socialist and a liar. They do not believe any word he says. They know that he is making up numbers to show better unemployment and GDP growth. They know that he is a socialist who wants to destroy our country. They know that he lies everytime he move his mouth. They know that he is a loser who spends his time blaming President Bush and the Republicans instead of fixing the problems. They know that he is a defeatist and an appeaser who is weak with our terrorist enemies. They know that he is the most incompetent human to ever become President. <
