WHISTLER, British Columbia (AP)Snow conditions forced the first delay at the Vancouver Olympics, postponing the womens super-combined Alpine race.
The women had been scheduled to race Sunday, and a new date has not been set yet. A heavy overnight rain made the course soft and unsafe.
The snow is too heavy, womens race director Atle Skaardal said Friday.
The status of the mens downhill race, which is scheduled for Saturday, also is in jeopardy.

For me it was standing up on slippery things in very cold weather.

This is really good news for the sensational American downhiller Lindsey Vonn. She suffered a bad bruise in training and every day makes if more likely she can compete in this event. She's the best hope for a slew of American medals in the downhill events.

She’s bad hurt and desperate. I hear she’s using everything from high tech medicine to quackery. I agree, whatever it takes!
To: colorado tanker
I feel for her, years of training and it was all clicking for her.

Well, see, OLTL, the Olympics begin tonight. IIRC, during the Olympics, we regard news of said O’s to be news, not just sports.
Norm, thanks for posting.
OLTL, do you ever wonder what Norm’s revenge is???? I don’t want to know! :)

Why this post? This will be blamed on Global Warming by nightfall. Welcome to FR, btw. Oh, gotcha. They're even blaming rain on global warming nowadays? Damn. If someone does end up blaming last night's rain on that, please post the link, that'd be nuts. I've been hanging around here for a little while now, but thanks for the welcome, nice to meet ya! :)

I was on call to do a demo run for the downhill team but I guess that is on hold now, too.

The snow is too heavy, womens race director Atle Skaardal said Friday. Looking at it from another perspective: What a bunch of pansies!
Back when I raced, in the '60's, you took what ya got! Ice. Slop. half bare slopes... whatever it took is right!

I’m cynical enough to believe this site for the Winter Olympics (Whistler, near Vancouver, near the coast) was picked because of it’s variable winter climate (tending towards warm spells) as a huge commercial for global warming.
Liberals don’t do maps, logic, or any other form of research or critical thinking. To them, if the Winter Olympics on television has melting snow, then carbon-dioxide-based, anthropocentric global warming is an obvious fact, polar bears are in danger, and conservatives are gas-guzzling, carbon-belching monsters who need to be killed in the name of peace - pass the chianti, darling.

Quebec City was the other city in the competition for Canada, it lost obviously, heck Banff must have some snow but that is way out in the boonies..
