The neurobiologist accused of killing three colleagues at the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Friday fatally shot her brother in 1986 in suburban Boston, the authorities in Massachusetts confirmed Saturday.

Early Saturday, the police in Huntsville charged the neurobiologist, Amy Bishop, 45, with capital murder in the shootings Friday during a faculty meeting that also left three people wounded. On Saturday afternoon, the police in Braintree, Mass., announced that Ms. Bishop had fatally wounded her brother in their home 24 years ago, which The Boston Globe first reported on its Web site on Saturday. Ms. Bishop was not charged and the case records were no longer available, said Paul Frazier, the Braintree police chief.

Chief Frazier said in his statement that Officer Solimini remembers that Ms. Bishop fired a round from a pump-action shotgun into the wall of her bedroom. She had a fight with her brother and shot him, which caused his death. She fired a third round from the shotgun into the ceiling as she exited the home. She fled down the street with the shotgun in her hand. At one point she allegedly pointed the shotgun at a motor vehicle in an attempt to get the driver to stop.

WAAAAY down in graf 12 we get to Rep. Delahunt:
[...] The determination was made that we were going to turn the inquiry over to the district attorney.
The district attorney at the time was William Delahunt, a Democrat, who is now a Congressman. A spokesman for Mr. Delahunt said he was traveling in Israel and could not immediately be reached.

FWIW, they could have kept quiet about it. No one would have known, and the records are missing.
Also, the report by the current chief says that the police were all extremely unhappy about what happened at the time. But what are you going to do when the DA and the Chief and the town politicians all agree to let the party off and fake the report?
Maybe they could have protested back then. Or maybe they thought that the system was corrupt enough that it wouldn’t have done any good.
But at least they have gone public now.
Exactly !

That was December 1986—she was stressed out over the danger that Ronald Reagan would start World War III with the Soviet Union, or that the Contras would win.

I should add that that looks like some sort of bigoted kook site, now that I’ve read the posts there. But the house photo and the details about the perp’s father are probably genuine, pending further reports.
“she might end up committing suicide, hanging herself in jail”
She won’t have any trouble getting tenure in there.

Some credible Republicans are looking at the race, including ex-Treasurer Joe Malone, state Senator Robert Hedlund, and state Representative Jeff Perry. I’m hopeful.
The Boston Globe reached former Braintree police chief Polio (now 87) and he confirmed that Delahunt gave the word to release Amy Bishop on the night of the killing.
How did Delahunt make such a huge decision so quickly? How was the family connected to Delahunt and/or the Democrat machine? The original, and incriminating, Braintree police crime report was known to be missing as early as 1988...
With many a lawsuit just around the corner, this is going to get real messy for quite a few Democrats.
Thank God you added that addendum because I was going to ask just how you found that deranged awful website. Seriously, just awful awful awful people.
I found it by googling for the father’s name. The website may be filled with KKK types, but it struck me as curious that nothing has been said about him.
Obviously a rich and influential guy. Maybe he as well as the mother had something to do with getting the girl off—or, of course, maybe not.
It’s worse than that. The shotgun was a pump action, which means that it does not reload itself every time it’s fired. A semi-automatic does that. With a pump action shotgun, you have to pull a wooden slider, called a fore-end, about half a foot back, then push it forward the same distance to reload it. She did this three times - once to load the first shot, once for the one that killed her brother, and once for the one fired into the ceiling.
I could believe the first shot was an accident. The second and third were not accidents.
Hmmm. Selective prosecution among Boston D.As? I’m shocked, shocked, I tell you! /S This is precisely why the child abusing priests, John Geoghan and Paul Shanley were never arrested, nor prosecuted, when they were actively abusing kids in the early 80s. They were way too tight with the Democrat Party apparatus in Boston.
Delahunt is going to get “Scott Browned” in November - along with a few other losers in the Massachusetts delegation.
Thank you for the instruction. I thought any story that the shooting of the brother was an accident would be bogus.
Didn’t know they were husband and wife. Cool. Thanks for the tidbit.
I don’t care which surname the wife uses; just pick one.
