U.S. city considers surrender to 'green police'
WorldNet Daily ^ | Drew Zahn

What would life in an American city look like if it required its residents go green to combat climate change? Would it be all trees and gardens and bicycles, or would it look more like oppression under Big Brother's green thumb?

Cambridge, Mass., home of Harvard University, may be giving the country a glimpse of the answer.

Last May, the city officially adopted an order recognizing that there is a climate emergency; but after nearly a year, officials discovered the city's carbon footprint was nonetheless growing worse.

Cambridge Mayor Denise Simmons, therefore, brought together nearly 100 activists and concerned citizens under the endorsement of the city council to convene a "Climate Congress" to make recommendations on how Cambridge can meet its green goals.

The official report of the Climate Congress provides a sneak peek at how life in Cambridge may be about to dramatically change.

"This emergency is created by the growth of local greenhouse gas emissions despite the urgent warnings of climate scientists that substantial reductions are needed in order to reduce the risk of disastrous changes to our climate," the Climate Congress reports. "This proposal is made in the belief that an effective local response is, if anything, made more urgent by so far inadequate global agreements and federal policies for emissions reductions. It is made in the belief that our City should lead by example."

By the way, that “assumption” is EXACTLY what I heard on the Rush Limbaugh show. Please, don’t judge me. I have a subscription to the Weekly Standard for Gods sake! I maybe more in the mold of a “neo-con” like Charles Krauthammer, but please don’t call me a liberal. (i.e. Krauthammer is a self proclaimed ‘Global Warming Agnostic’)

I guess those two are liberals too though!!! Yeh freakin right.

Am I liberal for having that though process?

No. You're a liberal for thinking the oil will run out. They've been telling us that for decades. As a matter of fact, I think oil ran out in 1990, ten years after the Global Cooling decade ended. I've been driving my Flintstone mobile everywhere since then. Sure supply and demand may eventually drive us to the technologies you like. However, so far it's been the heavy hand of government that is making the wrong choices for us.

Think outside the box. Go gangbusters on nuclear. Make us energy independent with clean coal and natural gas. Convince your peers that clean diesel is where it's at and plugging in a car to charge it is for dopes. That the CARB idiots in California are clueless except where it advances their own power. Don't swim with the tide, swim against it.

Shut down Harvard and the savings will go on for years as well as increase the intellectual level of the whole country.

If we can convince people that being more environmentally conservative will save you money, I think more people could be convinced to drive smaller cars and use less water.

Use less water..lower your cost...
meanwhile the utility has to maintain the same facilities and work force
but now with a decreased revenue.

How do you suppose they would deal with this declining revenue?

Ok? Like I need your advice on what I need to make my family and friends aware of? If you followed my posts from the start instead of a knee jerk reaction, you would see that I am only insisting on public awareness and that economic pressures will bring the rest. I honestly think that businesses and the American consumer will see these trends before they peak, and will be able to adapt to them. I voted for John McCain, whoever said I wasn’t an “all of the above” person.

It is so funny how you people are so caught up in group think. Anything that is against your set of beliefs is ‘liberal.’ What a joke.

By the way, that idea came from Rush Limbaugh. He said that. He said that oil would never run out, but would be at such a low demand and high supply that alternative energy will be attractive.

So, I guess he is a brainwashed liberal right?

You be a neo-con if you wish.
Krauthammer is pro-abortion, anti-death penalty, and supports embryonic stem cell research.

Some conservative. Just another educated RINO.

Like with oil in the next 10 to 20 years, people will have to lower usage just to maintain current costs primarily because of supply and demand. I hate to make this argument solely about water though, it is really about everything. Everything should be expected to cost much more in the coming future, from paper to metal to energy. I think these rises in the price of the goods will naturally lead to less consumption of that particular commodity while the pressures will spawn great innovations.

Perfect timing, considering the “scientist” at the core of Global Warming has admitted his data is gone, his records stink and there has been no warming of statistical significance in 15 years.

If you’d like to share the news that Global Warming is a farce, as I have, here’s the Mayor’s contact info:

Thank you for your interest in contacting the Mayor.

By email: mayor@cambridgema.gov

By mail:

Mayor’s Office
Cambridge City Hall
795 Massachusetts Avenue
Cambridge, MA 02139

By telephone: (617) 349-4321

I’m sure she will consider this good news indeed, given Cambridge’s inability to lower it’s carbon footprint.

The email I sent to the Mayor:

Good evening,

I wanted to share some good news with you. It seems the scientist at the center of making Global Warming settled science has now admitted that he lost his data, kept poor records and that there has been no statistically significant warming in the last 15 years.

I am glad to share this information with you as I have heard of your endeavor to reduce Cambridge’s carbon footprint and it’s subsequent subpar result. Given this information, it is clear you no longer have to worry about your carbon footprint - or anyone else’s. I’m sure it is a load off your mind to know you can go back to your normal mayoral duties.

Warmest regards!

Do you think I support cap and trade? C’mon now, please don’t put words in my mouth.

I think prices should go up and hopefully that will deter people from taking 30 minute showers.

Any other suggestions, eh Comrade. We can all use more suggestions on how to live our life the Approved way!

One must know the threat before one can protect liberties. Research how they operate and their philosophy. It’s not about the environment because they couldn’t care less. Research - Sustainable Development - it’s bigtime global.

I knew that would be taken out of context. I don't have crystal ball, I don't know what the supply of water will be like in 20 years. But in my opinion and many experts opinion, water will be more scarce and at a higher demand as the population grows, according to basic market principles the price of water should go up.

That is what I meant by that statement, please don't put words in my mouth.

Whoa - check this out:

To make those changes a reality, the Congress also suggested a number of new taxes and fee increases:

* A carbon tax, perhaps in the form of a supplementary property tax

* Taxing paper and plastic bags at retailers

* Taxing car owners through "congestion pricing" on heavily trafficked roads

* Higher parking meter rates, fines on parking tickets, residential parking permit fees and an extra tax on "SUVs and other gas-guzzling vehicles."

Finally, the Congress proposed a number of new regulations and restrictions, including the following:

* Encouraging building owners to turn off the heat or cooling in the spring and fall ["Encouraging"? How? Oh, yeah...through taxation.]

* Rating rental units, allowing greener apartments to rent for more [i.e. rent control]

* Street signs posting residents' yearly energy bills, so more efficient homeowners can publicly boast of their savings [and the rest be shamed and ostracized]

* New mandates for efficiency in building codes on individual units and developments

* Reducing or eliminating curbside parking to compel people to walk or bicycle

* Banning cars from shopping centers

* Zoning ordinances protecting trees from being cut down, whether on public or private property [i.e. you can't cut down your own tree]

* Mandates requiring grocers to carry locally grown or produced food options

* "Environmental disincentives" against eating meat [What is an "environmental disincentive" - a tax?]

* Mandating restaurants and schools have "Meatless or Vegan Mondays"

* Banning meat from meals provided to the City Council and limiting the amounts of dairy served.

Consider the bolded words. No, these guys don't want to control your life. Not at all.
