A seven-year-old has broken down crying as she took the controversial lead of a Rio de Janeiro carnival parade.

Julia Lira became the youngest drum corps queen in memory, but her role has sparked much debate in Brazil.

A judge had earlier over-ruled objections from a child rights agency that said it was inappropriate given the carnival's sexual focus.

Disguisting. Her parents should be ashamed even to let their daughter tramp around like that. Disguisting country, disguisting culture and an embarassment to the Catholic faith.

Carnival is a *big* deal in Rio and, having seen it,I can attest to the fact that it’s pretty raunchy...including the women’s outfits.A kid that age shouldn’t be involved in that stuff,IMO.

I think this is her:

She is in an AP photo spread that includes this 2 shots later:

This is almost as abusive as the little girl kiddie porn "beauty pageants" they have here in the USA.

I lived in an apt complex with a lot of Brazilians last year. While it is true, the women’s bathing suits are a bit small, they were all very nice, well behaved, and I found fairly religious bunch. Unlike many of the Americans when at the pool, they were not drunk or misbehaving. My wife and other ladies often commented on how nice the men behaved. This is only from my personal experience, not what we see on TV.

Young girls in scanty costumes along with older gals in scanty costumes!

It’s almost as bad as... THE BEACH!

A year ago last September, my two daughters and I were taking a ferry from Ilha Grande to Angra dos Reis. We happened to arrive on Brazilian Independence Day and there was an enormous parade in Angra with many youth samba troupes, high school marching bands, Scouting troops and other youth dancing groups. It was amazing how much it felt like an Independence Day parade in the U.S. with our HS Marching Bands. I’ve not been to Carnival in Rio, but this was certainly wholesome, patriotic and quite inspiring.

People should leave her alone. This is a non issue; little girls everywhere love to dress up and dance, why have such dirty minds about it??

It's a culture thing, right???? But absolutely disgusting, none the less. That hyper-sexualized festival of debauchery even shames Mardi Gras in its depths of depravity. And if I recall correctly, both "celebrations" have ties to Catholicism. But regardless, it is considered a great honor to have your daughter selected to lead this extravagant tramp parade.

IT isn’t us who have dirty minds. It is the Brazilian people who celebrate this festival of debauchery. The festival is centered on sex. This isn’t about little girls dressing up and dancing - as is evident by this young one breaking down in tears.

I wonder if Michael Jackson said that those little boys like to take their shirts off when they drink “Jesus juice” and dance around gayly...

Mainstreaming pedophilia is the next step down after gay “marriage”.

####

Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) is the big party before the sacrificial season of Lent.

Catholics did not proscribe either the party or the debauchery, those are inventions of the secular world.

The Sydney Morning Herald has a video of the little girl dancing. Don’t know if I’m supposed to post it here.

I don’t really like the looks of it. I’ts kind of cute but kind of disgusting too.

The Samba is a very sexy, provocative dance. It’s not like the child was doing ballet or tap dance.

Get over yourself, read the rest of the replies on this thread, and above all, learn how to spell “disgusting”, which you misspelled THREE times. Does NOT inspire confidence!
