Foreign Demand for US Treasurys Takes Record Fall
CNBC ^ | 2/16/2010 | Staff

The government said Tuesday that foreign demand for U.S. Treasury securities fell by the largest amount on record in December with China reducing its holdings by $34.2 billion.

The reductions in holdings, if they continue, could force the government to make higher interest payments at a time that it is running record federal deficits.

The Treasury Department reported that foreign holdings of U.S. Treasury securities fell by $53 billion in December, surpassing the previous record of a $44.5 billion drop in April 2009.

It’s a ticking bomb they say.

I just started ordering #10 cans for the first time in my life.

Only a matter of when, not if.

You are 100% correct. The quiet walk from Treasuries keeps going.

This last move by China liquidated about 2.5% of their holdings. That sounds small, but it’s not.

With the internet fraud these days, be sure the cans are not empty.

Why not just stop up on sales of canned goods at local markets?

If you get stuff shipped to you there will be records of where this stuff went? I’ll be there for some!

Started preparing in August 2008 when it appeared the historic most unexperienced affirmative action candidate was going to win.
Another thought, if a nbc network is reporting this it has to be a lot nastier than what they are reporting.

Even MRE's only have a shelf life of 3 to 5 years. #10 cans have a shelf life of 25 to 30 years. I want to put these away and for get about them.

As far as a record trail, that does not concern me as much, especially as I will be hiding them.

China liquidated about 2.5% of their holdings.

I'm not sure just how this helps them, or anyone else. The were holding interest bearing paper; and now they are holding non-interest bearing paper.

It helps them in that they are the first ones with a chair.

Guess who will be left without one when the music stops:

The American people/taxpayers.

Absolutely. I paid off all my credit cards. Pay in cash. The only thing I have left is my car payment. If I could pay it off now I would.

#10 cans are freeze dried food which has a shelf life of 25 to 30 years (compared to a 3 to 5 year shelf life for MRE’s).

What about the 5 gallon pails that are vacuum packed with various kinds of wheat? If the vacuum holds are those good almost indefinitely? What if the vacuum packed pails are stored in the summer at 80 to 90 degrees F. How much am I losing there? Thanks.
