FORT WORTH -- Hoping to fire up supporters as early voting in the gubernatorial race begins today, U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison kicked off a "Declare Your Independence" tour Monday, encouraging Texas voters to declare their independence from Republican Gov. Rick Perry.
Hutchison will be among several candidates casting their ballots today to bring attention to early voting. March 2, the date of the primary election, is also Texas' Independence Day.
"I'm asking for your vote and I'm asking for your help," Hutchison told a crowd of more than 40 gathered in a back room at Billy Miner's Saloon in downtown Fort Worth, where she was joined by former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach, a longtime friend; U.S. Rep. Kay Granger, R-Fort Worth; and other supporters. "I will be a governor who never forgets who she works for."
Perry, Hutchison and Debra Medina, a Wharton businesswoman and tea party activist, top the primary ticket for the Republican gubernatorial nomination.
Seven Democrats are vying for their party's nomination: former Houston Mayor Bill White, Houston hair-care magnate Farouk Shami, teacher Felix Alvarado, physician Alma Aguado, college professor Clement Glenn, private investigator Bill Dear and rancher Star Locke.

Once again I ask the question, who crowned Medina a "Tea Party Activist"? Our governor has been the one who has been active with the tea party crowds, not funky cold Medina. She is just as much an establishment RINO as the rest being a party chairperson.
+1
Well, the Paulestinians, including Ron Paul himself have been running around taking credit for starting the entire Tea Party movement. They're even complaining because we conservatives are infiltrating it.
Rick Santelli started the Tea Party Nation as a protest against the bailouts. The Paulestinians just jumped on the bandwagon and are trying to take over.
I suspect that's where Ms. Medina and her followers are getting the whole (erroneous) "tea party activist" notion.
I doubt she’d step down from the Senate if she won the Gov in the general. She is way too in love with herself.
“Hutchison told a crowd of more than 40 gathered in a back room at Billy Miner’s Saloon”
Can’t accuse her of being lavish.
“She is for abortion”

“Medina is one of the many candidates fighting to be “more conservative than thou” in an attempt to win over the party base. According to the New York Times, Medina staunchly advocates for states’ rights, abolishing property taxes, deploying the Texas National Guard to protect the border from illegal immigrants, and unregulated ownership of property and guns, opposing all federal gun laws.
Medina is also a staunch opponent of abortion rights.
“Life begins at conception and concludes at natural death,” she states on her campaign website. “Every human is created in the image of God. God, not man, is the measure of all things. Every human life is precious and I will work to protect innocent human life.”

IMO, she’s the biggest RINO because she is a Libertarian.
Thanks for the link.
Things are looking good so far.
Almost makes you want to take a democrat ballot and vote for Farouk! LOL
How much damage could we do to the other side by voting for their freaks and least likely to succeed?
Operation Chaos all over again.
Yeah baby. I voted for Hillary in Operation Chaos! Texas Two-Step. Got elected as a Democrat delegate for my precinct. (Spouse was an alternate!) It was beautiful. A hard-core Republican behind enemy lines.
LOL - It would be pretty funny to get ShamWow up on the Dem ticket.
I’m just sayin...I really dont like my choices for Guv.
