Fox News analyst Bob Beckel today criticized Vice President Joe Biden for wearing ashes on TV; today is Ash Wednesday and Biden is Catholic.
In the middle of a discussion on President Obama’s stimulus plan, Beckel gratuitously said, “Sorry about laughing, but I looked at Joe Biden’s forehead, and I know it is Ash Wednesday, but I’m not sure I would wear that ash on the air. Anyway….”
Catholic League president Bill Donohue wasn’t amused:
Bob Beckel’s admonishing remark, “I’m not sure I would wear that ash on the air,” makes us wonder whether it is the public display of ashes he finds risible, or the religion that sports them.
In any event, there is no record of Beckel ever lecturing a Jew about wearing a yarmulke on TV or a Muslim wearing a turban. Must be something about Catholicism that bothers this guy. We’d love to know what it is. At the very least, a clarification about what he meant is in order.

The funny thing is my first impression was someone knocked him for a loop and left a bruise..Then I remember it was Ash Wednesday..
If he really thinks we believe he is any kind of holy man he needs to think again..If I were Catholic I would be very angry at this fool..He is one of those that if he does go to Church then he does it for show..As for his boss he doesn't care he know we know he is a filthy Muslim..

So where the hell are all the other Catholics with ash on their foreheads today... Biden just trying to make that political connection with Catholic voters, stupid if you ask me.
Catholics do not wear a cross of ashes to win the praise of others. Wearing ashes is not a righteous deed. It is not alms giving. Wearing ashes is not prayer or praying in public. It is not to earn the praise of others. Wearing ashes is not fasting. Wearing ashes is not done to earn points with God. This reading is done intentionally on Ash Wednesday to point out these things that wearing ashes is NOT.
The ashes are worn to remind us and those around us of our mortality and imperfection. Ashes are not worn with pride, they are worn with humility. It is a reminder that “you are dust and unto dust you shall return.”
I saw Beckel on Hannity the other night with former Maryland Governor Erhlich (R).
Swear that Bob Beckel was high and/or drunk. He was totally obnoxious and appears slovenly.
Maybe Biden just got his own convenience store and wanted to look the part.
Such a comment reminds me of the time Ted Turner made a big stink about Stuart Varney weating ashes on Ash Wednesday. Just typical of Ted’s Christian bashing, especially of Catholics. Stuart Varney left CNN for Fox (it may have been the last straw for him), and I suspect he may have taken some people with him.

I had a lady on an elevator with me once, who licked her fingers and began to wipe away “the smudge” on my forehead. I was grossed out that this woman’s spit was on my head.
Biden strikes me as a liberal (like most) on some sort of weird autopilot. He has no real ideas or thoughts about anything that are logically concluded. He just walks around in a stupor and blurts out (sometimes) connected coherent thoughts, but that is just a product of his years doing it. There is obviously no real comprehension on display.
Beckel would fit right into Stalin’s world without flinching.
And to think, all this time I figured gaff machine Biden ran into a literal 2 x 4 “We the People” board with that mark on his forehead.......
He’s wrong, but that’s of no matter to him.
