CA: Meg's domestics registered to vote -- when she was "too busy" (w/career,family) to do so

Former eBay CEO Meg Whitman has said that her admittedly "atrocious" voting record was the result of being "busy with my career and family" -- and she never registered to vote when she lived in an upscale Boston suburb during the 1990s. But her cook and house manager did, according to records obtained by The Chronicle.

Among those who may be surprised about the California Republican gubernatorial candidate's failure to register in the Bay State might be former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, whose 2008 presidential campaign Whitman co-chaired. Her lack of a voting record in Massachusetts means Whitman did not cast a ballot for Romney when he ran in, and lost, a high-profile 1994 race for U.S. Senate against Democrat Edward Kennedy.

Whitman has repeatedly told campaign audiences that Romney has long been a valued "mentor," lifelong friend and adviser -- as well as her boss at Bain & Company, the global business consulting firm. Whitman worked in the San Francisco office of Bain for eight years in the 1980s.

...

"Meg has been very clear that she didn't vote as often as she should, she has taken responsibility for it," said Whitman campaign spokeswoman Sarah Pompei in response Thursday. "She apologized for it."

As she competes against state Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner for the California GOP gubernatorial nomination, Whitman is often asked to explain her admittedly spotty voting record in California -- as during a Commonwealth Club appearance in Lafayette this week.

The candidate has shifted her answers a bit over time. ..

In Lafayette, she said that after years of non-voting, she had a revelation while at eBay. After seeing how hard it was to do business while wrestling with government bureaucracy, she said, she realized that "politics may be the only way out of this mess."

This is just a trash story from the ultra-liberal SF Chronicle. Is there a more left-wing newspaper than the Chronic?

Interesting that this is considered a sin greater than all of those who did not pay their taxes, took sweetheart deals from various sources, etc.

Wonder if political party has anything to do with that?

But were the cook and house manager illegal aliens?

It was a good thing that she wasn't voting, considering she has given money to Barbara Boxer, Maria Cantwell, Mitt Romney and John Kerry.

The article doesn’t mention if Meg’s mailman was registered to vote. Can someone at the Chronicle please check for me?

She gave Romney a $1000.00 that year though. She gave Kerry a $1000.00 for his race five years later.

she was “too busy”

I have a real problem with a person running for office who was too busy to vote in the past. Although I’d prefer a republican in office I just don’t think this gal has any strong beliefs or focus beyond herself. We have enough in government with no core values. We just don’t need another. Her Ebay record indicates that underneath she is a tax and spend type. She’ll likely nickle and dime us to death.

If I find the time I just might vote. I can’t commit yet. It depends on how I feel on vote day.

Well .. I still want to know when she’s going to admit to her “admiration” for Van Jones.
