Iranian state television has reported that the country has launched its first Iranian-built destroyer. Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei attended the launch ceremony.

Khamenei described the production of the destroyer as "valuable". He said he hoped that God would pave the way for future advancements. The guided-missile destroyer is equipped with torpedos, surface-to-air missiles and naval cannons.

The report said the 94-meter destroyer weighs 1,500 tons and has a helipad and modern radar equipment. The ship has a top speed of 30 knots and can carry a crew of between 120 and 140.

Let’s sink it for an artificial reef for the greenies and divers.

Is that thing powered by a 9.9 hp Evinrude?

This thing is not a true destroyer - it’s tiny. More like a corvette.

Simple instructions on how to make a good tin foil boat.

Steps:
1. Lay down 1 of your pieces of tin foil and make the shape of the boat you want.
2. Poke a small hole through the tin foil.
3. Put another piece in and poke a small hole on the other side of the boat.
4. Repeat steps 1 - 3 until you have enough tin foil.
5. Fold the rim so the water cannot get in through the sides.

That is, if the Israelis don't beat us to it.

Indeed. Welding a hull without holes and dropping a diesel in does not make it a warship. That's the easiest part. The tough part, the one that even best warships can't absolutely guarantee, is to defend the ship from threats - and there is plenty of those. This Iranian ship, even though it seems to have a cannon, is good only for threatening fishermen. It probably can be sunk with a single anti-ship missile; so it exists only while it remains irrelevant.

You do have to give them some credit for being industrious and self-reliant. You know, like we were.
