GA Citizens Supporting HB-615 ^ | NA | NA

Petition:

"Dear Georgia Legislators,

I am pleased to be a citizen of Georgia, a consistent voter and a proud firearm owner. Thank you for your overall support of my right to bear arms last year by passing HB 89. I am grateful to have representation like you in the Georgia General Assembly. With my signature on this petition, I pledge support to HB 615, which is a bill that aims to restore my right to bear arms in Georgia. I would be very grateful of your favorable vote on this legislation when you have the opportunity."

I urge, make that BEG, all GA FReepers to please sign this petition. This bill, if enacted, would remove the confusing and obsolete "public gathering" clause of the GA firearms license law, and would also override the outrageous Atlanta city law prohibiting persons holding a GA firearms carry license from merely possessing a gun on the person, in luggage, or in a vehicle anywhere on airport property, including the airport roads and off-site parking lots. This bill would NOT affect the Federal law prohibiting guns in the secure areas of the airport building and would not violate any federal law.

If you reside in GA, PLEASE go to the web address http://www.petitiononline.com/GaHB615/petition.html and sign the petition.

Bump from your Alabama neighbor. I have family in Georgia and the public gathering clause is a pain for everyone. It’s one of the reasons I joined GeorgiaCarry.org

Many thinks Dacula, this bill needs all the help it can get.

This bill will hopefully confound the anti-gun Atlanta Democrat politicians who apparently think their city ordinances over-ride the laws passed by the General Assembly and signed by the Governor. If this new bill passes and is signed into law, the Atlanta mayor and airport manager will probably ignore it as they did the previous law regarding the issue. But this new bill is supposedly written in a way to make sure that won't happen again.

A link? You betcha, right HERE

It's kind of a long read because it was written to cover more than just the airport and public gathering issues.

It certainly is. I don't carry in some places just because I can't be sure I'm not violating that stupid "public gathering" clause. In the past some judges have interpreted it differently from some others, so you can never be sure you're carrying legally even with a GA carry permit.

The Atlanta airport ordinance is clearly over-ridden by the current GA CC law even without this new bill to clarify it's intent, but two liberal judges have agreed with the Atlanta gang of thugs and given the local law precedence over the state law. Hopefully, if this bill will correct that outrageous situation the original intent of the first Assembly law will be restored, but I don't put anything past the far-left thugs who run Atlanta like Stalin ran the USSR.

Done. Will work on the rest of the relatives today. Did I read the petition correctly in that you didn’t have to have a CCW to sign, just be a Georgia resident?

All GA residents are qualified to sign. IIRC you are only required to give your address, and it’s optional but not required to list the names of your state Senator and Assembly member. Please sign.

I think the odds of the bill passing are pretty good, and if passed I would bet the farm that Perdue will sign it. It may not pass in the exact same wording as it is now written, but I think all of the important portions of the bill will be preserved in the final version. The more petition signatures we can get the more likely it will be for the bill to pass intact.
