Foreign workers could take jobs that Americans wouldn't want - such as agricultural jobs in Yuma that go begging - with the burden on employers to quit employing each person at the end of some specified time. McCain responded by saying immigrants were taking jobs nobody else wanted. He offered anybody in the crowd $50 an hour to pick lettuce in Arizona. Shouts of protest rose from the crowd, with some accepting McCain's job offer. "I'll take it!" one man shouted. McCain insisted none of them would do such menial labor for a complete season. "You can't do it, my friends." Some in the crowd said they didn't appreciate McCain questioning their work ethic.

I think a distinction needs to be made, temporary workers, i.e. Green Cards, are not the same as the illegal walk-ins.

Temporary worker program makes sense. At least we will know who the illegal immigrants are and what jobs they are working in. Wight now we have 15 to 30 million illegals with no idea who they are or where they are. There is no way to locate them or round them up if need arises.

It is a good quiz. When I took it, my dot was near the junction of the Right Conservative, Libertarian and Moderate borders.

I'd have no problem with McCain's less than stellar record if he didn't take such delight in poking conservatives in the eye at the worst possible times-- amnesty, McCain-Feingold, crap and trade and the like.
