AUSTIN Insurgent candidate Debra Medina has lost some ground in the Republican governor's race after a controversial radio interview about the 9/11 terrorist attacks, according to a new poll that also shows that Gov. Rick Perry would easily prevail in a potential runoff against his leading challenger, U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.
Perry led Hutchison 40 percent to 31 percent, while Medina had 20 percent, according to the survey of likely voters in next Tuesday's Republican primary.
The survey also showed former Houston Mayor Bill White with 59 percent over his six rivals in the Democratic governor's race, well above the majority threshold he needs to avoid a runoff.
Houston hair care magnate Farouk Shami, White's most visible Democratic rival, had 12 percent.
The poll, conducted Friday through Sunday by Public Policy Polling of Raleigh, N.C., was the first to gauge the impact of Medina's remarks in a Feb. 11 radio interview with conservative commentator Glenn Beck.
Under questioning by Beck, the conservative GOP activist did not immediately disavow a theory that the U.S. government was involved in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Medina quickly sought to clarify her remarks and said she was set up by opponents.
But the latest survey showed that Medina has dropped 4 points since a poll two weeks earlier and may have been irreparably hurt by the remarks, said pollster Tom Jensen. "Our polling suggests that the Glenn Beck interview is really hurting her," Jensen said in a telephone interview.
Medina, who espouses a message of limited government and state sovereignty, bounced out of obscurity with successful performances in two debates and at one point appeared to be closing in on Hutchison for second-place behind Perry.

“She actually thinks the Beck interview was set up by the Perry campaign.”
Yes, and I suppose she thinks her incoherent response was also a Bush set-up.
geesh, I almost supported this lady.
There’s still a lot of yard signs for her around Fort Worth.
I’m amazed she’s over 10%. Kinda scary.
It is scary. She had not been vetted before the Beck interview.
I think it’s just general frustration and that same hardcore libertarian crowd that tends to fall for politicians that promise the world.
Only thing I like about her is not that she’s against needing a license for CCW. As long as we’re shall issue though, it’s not that drastic to go for a total unknown. I don’t believe her when she says she’d totally cut property taxes. The only way to do that would be to massively hike sales taxes (awful) or start an income tax (inconceivably awful). This state basically has no debt and taxes really are fairly reasonable, so I just don’t see a major need to screw with taxes now.
A picture is worth a thousand words....
This will kill any chances she’ll have at least for sometime of being elected on a statewide basis, imo.
Q12 Do you think Debra Medina believes the Bush
administration played a role in the attacks of
9/11? If yes, press 1. If no, press 2. If youre
not sure, press 3.
Yes ................................................................. 21%
No ................................................................... 50%
Not Sure.......................................................... 29%

Thanks for the information!
No open US Senate seat in Texas this year, Dengar. KBH did say she'd resign, win or lose the governors race. We'll see.
For God's sake, has anybody really looked into her platform- her background? Has this woman even been vetted?
She wants legalized drugs.
She backs gay marriage.
.
She has not spoken to her elderly parents for YEARS. They had to find out she was runing for governor of Texas by reading the newspaper!

What does this say about this woman's character?
And rumors are begining to surface about husband Noe's past associations.
Take a look at some of the statements she has made: "Its a shame isnt it, that Republicans continue to ignore Hispanics especially here in Texas?
"Who is going to think more about Latino families? Rick Perry, Kay Bailey Hutchison or me, who has a Latino family?
"Being married, however, to someone with a Mexican American heritage, I certainly embrace the culture.
"I believe we too often get into race when its immaterial. (Obummer, is that you?)
I don't believe for one minute Medina's propaganda about wanting to strengthen the border!
La Raza probably has her in their back pocket!
At 3:30 on this video Medina says, 'Why were there no police killed on 9 11?' http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/politics&id=7274692
This idea that Beck (or anybody else) sabotaged Medina is absurd. If you cant answer did the govt have anything to do with the 9/11 attacks? you're not be fit to run for dogcatcher.
Glenn Beck has once again helped the tea-party stay in the Republican mainstreamby by weeding out dangerous fringe thinkers like Medina.
Medina is NOT representative of the Tea Party movement. She USED them- latched herself on to them. Shes a hard core Libertarian who has realized that the Libertarian Party will never win anything and that the only possible way to get herself into office is to do what Ron Paul did and wrap herself in the Republican cloak in hopes that it will fool enough of the voters enough of the time. Thank God Glen Beck outed her in time.
Retrieve your sombrero from the ring and go home Senora Medina. You're Texas toast. .
That’s photoshopped. La Raza in this case is a radio station. You can see where someone tried to change it to the extremist group with the wrong typeface.
