Judge orders ex-Detroit mayor back to court
By Corey Williams
Associated Press Writer / February 23, 2010

DETROIT - A judge has ruled that former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick must return to court Friday to be arraigned on a probation violation warrant.

The judge said Tuesday that a warrant will soon be issued for Kilpatrick. He ordered Kilpatrick to appear in his courtroom for failing to make a required $79,000 restitution payment. The former mayor could face jail or prison as a consequence.

Kilpatrick owes $1 million as part of his guilty plea to obstruction of justice in 2008. He's been making monthly payments, but the judge ordered the $79,000 payment due Friday and one for $240,000 due in April after finding Kilpatrick wasn't honest about his finances.

Defense attorneys say that to prove Kilpatrick violated probation, prosecutors must show he could have paid the $79,000.

FILE - In this Jan. 20, 2010 file photo, former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick appears during his restitution hearing in Detroit. Authorities say more money has been turned in on behalf of Kwame Kilpatrick, the former Detroit mayor who missed a deadline last week to make a special payment toward his restitution to the city. The Wayne County prosecutor's office says money orders worth $21,175 were dropped off Monday, Feb. 22, 2010 raising the total to more than $35,000 since Friday. It's still far short of the $79,011 that Kilpatrick was supposed to pay. Prosecutor Kym Worthy says he's violated his probation and is pursuing a warrant. (AP Photo/Paul Sancya, File)

Arraigning Kwame for probation violation just because he failed to live up to the terms of his probation? Sounds like the prosecutor is racist!

Can’t play the race card, Wayne County Prosecutor is Kim Worthy, and she be Black. Now jury selection is another problem...

Why is he not in JAIL?

Give him a little more time, he's working on getting there.
