On a recent CPAC thread, somebody suggested that a Paul/Palin ticket would be one that they could support in 2012.

To which my response is... um, ooooookay.

The truth is, I think that's putting a little too much emphasis on one non-binding straw poll. Yes, Ron Paul's support within the GOP is growing; but 2012 is still very much looking like Sarah Palin's year. Indeed, with her endorsement of Rand Paul in Kentucky, I think that we'll probably see more of the Paul People moving towards Sarah Palin's camp, rather than the other way around.

For myself, I think that's a very smart move on Governor Palin's part. And it looks like Kentucky's going to get a great Senator out of the deal, as well -- since both Rand Paul and Trey Grayson are currently out-polling their prospective Democrat opponents, with Rand Paul out-polling the Dems by a potential landslide.

Rand Paul is Ron Paul with real actual electability. This is a very good thing for a GOP in desperate need of fresh blod.

I just checked out his campaign website for his positions on issues... seems like a strong conservative to me, but I do hear rumblings he’s flip-flopped on some stances. Any insights, anyone?

Why is the last poll listed in RealClearPolitics for this race from december? Is the group that did this poll not a recognized polling company?

Rand Paul is a RINO..... how you ask? Sarah Palin supports McCain who is a RINO, thus making Palin a RINO. Palin supports Rand Paul, thus making Paul a RINO.....

Rand Paul is identical to his father on public policy. Scratch away the campaign rhetoric and this can easily be discerned.

Trey Grayson responded to the Reagan Revolution by becoming a leader of the Democrats at Harvard. He responded to Clintonism by becoming a Democrat supporter of Clinton. He'll be whatever he has to be to obtain power.

Bill Johnson is the true Reagan personhood pro-life, peace through strength, constitutionalist, moral conservative, Reaganite in this race.

Since these folks didn't bother to even include him, and Johnson's campaign has real traction on the ground in KY, this poll is completely worthless, except as a campaign tool to be used by the Paulites to fool people.

I hope Rand Paul is a lot like his father, but there is no way to know except for his words which suggest so.

Not that I’m a Ron Paul fan, its just that at this point Ron Paul is about the only republican with a record of keeping his word in Washington D.C.

The premise of this thread is false. Even the pollster has admitted as much:

Pollster apologizes for omitting Bill Johnson from poll - admits that results are not accurate [KY]

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE         February 24, 2010
INTERVIEWS AND QUESTIONS:  DAVID FLAHERTY 303-861-8585

MAGELLAN DATA AND MAPPING STRATEGIES APOLOGIZES FOR NOT INCLUDING BILL JOHNSON AND OTHER DECLARED US SENATE CANDIDATES IN KENTUCKY GOP PRIMARY SURVEY
________________________________________________________________________________________________

Louisville, CO – Magellan Strategies CEO David Flaherty today contacted US Senate candidate Bill Johnson and apologized to him personally for not including his name in Magellan’s February 18th survey of likely Republican primary voters.  Magellan CEO David Flaherty stated “It was a gross oversight on our part and we sincerely apologize for any problems this may have caused to the Johnson, Grayson and other Republican US Senate campaigns in Kentucky.”

Flaherty continued, “The US Senate ballot test question from our February 18th survey is not accurate because Bill Johnson and other declared candidates were not included in the question.  Without Bill Johnson and the other primary candidates included in the ballot test question the results are obviously not an accurate reflection of the Republican primary ballot that voters will choose from on May 18th.”

David Flaherty also contacted the Trey Grayson Campaign to apologize for the error.

FYI, the poll numbers that reflect reality, according to both the Johnson and Grayson campaigns, can be found HERE. They show Rand Paul in third, and the strength of his support to be very weak.
